A comic book based on Team Sonic Racing will launch this fall, Sega announced during San Diego Comic Con 2018. The company is hooking up with IDW Publishing, the company recently put in charge of the Sonic comics, to adapt the racing game for a single, special issue.
The plot will see Sonic and myriad friends racing to fight “an old foe” (take a guess as to whom) while participating in an actual race. The whole thing takes place on an alien planet as well, and that may account for why Sonic is racing around in a car instead of on-foot.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ writer Caleb Goellner is handling the story, while Sonic the Hedgehog comic veteran Adam Bryce Thomas will return to illustrate. You can take a look at Thomas’ artwork, courtesy of the comic’s cover, below.
Team Sonic Racing is this year’s marquee Sonic the Hedgehog game, and it will launch on consoles and PC this fall. Developer Sumo Digital is behind the project, and it brings previous experience working on Sonic-themed racing games with it. Races support upward of 12 players, and the game will incude both online and local multiplayer.
The Team Sonic Racing book is out in October, while the Team Sonic Racing game is out this winter.
