Princess Shuri is getting the Avengers team up the movie fandom has always wanted

In order to save the world from a black hole, she needs a little help

Leonardo Romero/Marvel Comics

Shuri is back from space in the latest issue of her solo comic series. After her older brother disappeared on a mission to space, a group of Wakadan women, lead by Queen Ramoda, urged Shuri to take up the mantle of the Black Panther. But Shuri — more focused on finding her brother instead of replacing him — refused.

While T’Challa is missing from this entire arc, Shuri’s not without allies. In fact, she’s been teaming up with some pretty popular heroes, and this latest issue has her reaching out to a fan-favorite Avenger.

[Ed. note: This post contains spoilers for Shuri #4]

In an attempt to find T’Challa, Shuri and the youngest of those women, a girl named Mansa, were sent on a psychic trip through space. Shuri ended up mind-melding with Groot, while Mansa’s consciousness was trapped in a giant space-insect called a Lubber. Along with Rocket’s help, Shuri/Groot defeated the Lubber and she and Mansa hurtled back to Earth at the start of Shuri #4. But as it turns out, the Lubber is right on their tails.

Drawn to music, the Space-Lubber crash lands in the middle of a concert, one that super villain Moses Magnum just happens to be attending. He takes this as a sign to unleash his powers. Moses augments the Space-Lubber’s power and tears a black hole into the ground.

Teaming up with Storm, Okoye and Shuri they try to fight it, but the Lubber escapes, leaving behind the slowly expanding black hole. To her annoyance, Shuri realizes she’s going to need some outside help to fix it it, from a certain someone simply listed in her phone as “That Guy.”

This issue ends with a meeting that should make Marvel Cinematic Universe fans everywhere slightly giddy: Shuri teaming up with Tony Stark!

Considering Shuri’s official status as the smartest person in the MCU, and Tony’s knack for taking budding geniuses under his wing, it’s a crossover many have eagerly awaited for in the films. But this will do for now. Tony receives her message while clad in a white tank and sipping a Captain America mug — totally casual, but he should get ready to suit up, because it looks like these two tech geniuses will be teaming up to save the Earth from a black hole.
