DC Comics announced on Saturday that it is readying Wonder Woman for the first crossover event to spin out of the hero’s main series since the early 1990s. A DC FanDome panel revealed that Trial of the Amazons will rock DC’s expanding Wonder Woman titles at a “cosmic scale” in 2022.
The world of Wonder Woman has been in flux for a few months now, as Diana traveled through various afterlives in search of a way back to Earth, her mother Hippolyta became the Wonder Woman of the Justice League, the Amazon warrior Nubia stepped up to become queen of Themyscira, and a new Wonder Girl began her path to heroism in Brazil.
And from that grand shuffling of roles will come “a power struggle that will redefine the future of DC’s Amazons,” according to DC’s news release.

The first hints of that conflict will arise in the pages of the upcoming series Nubia & the Amazons, which will debut on Oct. 19. The event series itself will be written with input from all the writers in DC’s current Wonder Woman titles: Becky Cloonan, Michael Conrad, Vita Ayala, Stephanie Williams, Joelle Jones, and Jordie Bellaire.
“Wonder Woman has a literal ISLAND full of interesting characters, along with various family members scattered across the globe,” Conrad told Polygon. “Trial of the Amazons presents a unique opportunity to either bring them together or fracture these relationships further. Diana finds herself as perhaps the only tenuous bond between them all, but she won’t be able to fix this alone.”
