Christmas is only a few days away and while this weekend will probably be pretty busy with travel and holiday preparations, it’s worth taking a minute to check out some of the last minute holiday sales on games and consoles before hitting the road (or braving a busy mall).
Rather than rounding up a straight list of the best deals of the week like we normally do, Polygon Deals is highlighting holiday sales on consoles and games by platform. You’re sure to find something on your list, whether you’re shopping for last minute gifts or just want to entertain yourself over long car rides and family visits.
Sometimes the weekend is just too short: join us on Twitter for all the latest deals throughout the week.
Xbox One: Through Christmas Day, Microsoft is discounting all Xbox One consoles by $100. That applies to official bundles as well, including the Fortnite bundle that’s been sold out at many retailers. B&H is even offering an extra $20 off, bringing the Xbox One X down to $379.99.
Microsoft also just announced the lineup of January’s Games With Gold, which includes Polygon’s #5 game of the year pick, Celeste. Currently, new subscribers can get a month of Xbox Live Gold for $1 (usually $9.99/month). That’ll also give you an extra 10 percent discount on Microsoft’s Xbox digital game sales.
Nintendo Switch: While not technically a discount, Nintendo Switch consoles come with a $25 gift card at Amazon, Target, Best Buy and GameStop. Walmart is also bundling your choice of a Nintendo Labo set with a Switch purchase for $340 (up to $30 off).
PlayStation 4: Black Friday was probably the last PS4 discount we’ll see for a while, but Sony is bringing back Black Friday pricing on PlayStation VR bundles. The company is offering an $100 discount on three bundles, and GameStop is discounting some excellent PSVR games including Tetris Effect, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission and Creed: Rise to Glory.
PC: Several online retailers of PC digital downloads are offering deep discounts on some of the year’s best games. Steam’s Winter Sale was announced this week, discounting games by up to 75 percent. As always the retailer is running a themed campaign, with bonus “knick-knacks” available on each day of the sale.
A few licensed key marketplaces are running seasonal sales of their own. Fanatical’s winter sale has been going since December 10 and includes discounts on over 1,000 games. You can save an extra 10 percent off sale prices with code FANATICAL10. Fanatical is known for its Steam bundles and this year it’s offering a “Winter Mystery Bundle” that includes up to 10 random Steam keys for $6.99.
Green Man Gaming is also getting in on the action with a Holiday Sale, running through Jan. 10. Like Fanatical, an offer code will save a little extra: use code GMG12 for 12 percent off sale prices.
