The holiday rush is over and with it the last major deals of 2018. Ordinarily January is a pretty slow month for video game sales; there’s a lull between holiday shopping and any major new releases. But Nintendo, usually known for its lack of discounts, is starting 2019 off with a New Year’s sale on digital Switch games. You can save up to 75 percent off digital downloads, including some first-party Nintendo titles, at the Nintendo eShop as well as major retailers like Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop, now through Jan. 10.
January also brings a new batch of free games for Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus subscribers. PS4 games free for January are Steep and Portal Knights. Xbox Live Gold subscribers can download my favorite game this year, Celeste, along with Far Cry 2, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and WRC 6. If you’re not yet a member, Microsoft is still offering your first month of Xbox Live Gold for just $1 (usually $9.99/month).
PC gamers can subscribe to Humble’s monthly bundle for access to over $100 worth of Steam keys. Humble announced yesterday that the Early Unlock games for February’s bundle are Yakuza 0 and Tom Clancy’s The Division. The $12 subscription also gets you 10 percent off games at the Humble Store and access to a library of DRM-free games.
Sometimes the weekend is just too short: join us on Twitter for all the latest deals throughout the week.
