Deathloop’s “Space Invader” makes Charlie Montague and his Shift Slab our next target. We’re heading to Updaam at noon to gatecrash Charlie’s game.

Our Deathloop “Space Invader” walkthrough will help you find Charlie’s Shift Slab. We’ll guide you through your Loadout, and then walk you through the gatecrash Charlie’s game, find Charlie’s minicom, toss Charlie’s bedroom, search the Fristad shore, and find the cipher steps of this Visionary Lead.

Table of contents

Loadout

We played “Space Invader” after collecting and upgrading the Nexus Slab in “Chaos Theory.” Consider doing that because tethering enemies together is super helpful here.

The Spring Heeled trinket is, as always, all but necessary here.

A silent PT-6 Spiker is going to get you through a lot of the Eternalists, but you’re almost certainly going to end up in a firefight, so bring along another powerful gun — we’re a fan of that MG-1 Pepper Mill we found as part of “Heckin’ Good Plan” in Karl’s Bay.

Space Invader Visionary Lead walkthrough

Charlie Montague thinks he’s the king of tech. Time for some penetration testing.

Our Deathloop guide isn’t the only path through Updaam. You can take whatever path you want with as much stealth or combat as you see fit. Our walkthrough focuses on the path(s) that lead to every clue and Lead, letting you pick up any useful weapons along the way, and generally avoiding combat.

For this Lead, we’re heading to Updaam at noon.

Gatecrash Charlie’s Game

Between Charlie and Fia at noon, I’ll take Charlie and his admin duties. Force him to help me hack this problem.

Take the right path out of the tunnels. As soon as you exit, there’s an Eternalist directly ahead of you and two more down the hill. Sneak up and take out the closest one. The other two are good practice for you Nexus Slab power.

At the bottom of the hill, check the door on your left for the Feedback Loop note.

Continue along the road and through the tunnel. When you reach the giant red heads on your left (there’s also a Map of Updaam here if you haven’t grabbed one yet), turn left and start climbing up the hill.

Climb over the wall at the top, and take a left to climb some stairs. There’s a pair of Eternalists down the stairs on your right, and another pair on the stage to your left. Take out both pairs with the Nexus Slab.

Cross the front of The Library. Scramble the sensor at the far side, and then go under (or over) the bridge.

Condition Detachment

Charlie is actively playing his game, Condition Detachment, in his mansion, so you might run into him at any point. Kill him, take his Slab, gun, and trinkets, and then keep exploring.

It’s also extremely difficult to get through the mansion unnoticed, and that’s fine — it’s a game with live ammunition after all. Lots of loud shooting is a perfectly acceptable way to clear the house.

Find Charlie’s Minicom

Charlie’s admin minicom has special privileges. Its contents should reveal how to kill Charlie. And if I’m lucky, a few others.

Cross the bridge and take out the one Eternalist there. Keep right, and double jump up to the window.

Take a right onto the roof outside, and then head around to the left. Duck at that window, and climb inside to take out another Eternalist.

There are four Eternalists outside to your left. (It’s fine to get a little loud out here.) Approach the door slowly, and you’ll be able to take out the first pair of them with the Nexus Slab. There’s one more to your left and another to the right.

The Under-Ground Cave (First floor)

Head through the front door. Take out the first Eternalist you see quickly and quietly. Take a right from the front door and follow the wall around to the stairs. Head up the first flight.

The Planet Surface (Second floor)

At the top, follow the hall to the left. Watch above you on your left for Eternalists. Stay crouched along the left side of the hall to avoid getting spotted, but tag anyone you notice.

At the end of the hall, there’s a pair of Eternalists talking about the game. Use Nexus to take them both out at once. Right where you kill them, turn to the right to find a door. Step through for a slightly better version of the PT-6 Spiker.

Back out where you killed the duo, head to the right to find another door. Close the door behind you as you enter, and read the Safety Versus Death note on the wall and grab the Fiz-Pop on the ground next to the door if you need it.

Base Complex (Third floor)

Go back through the door and follow the hall to the next set of stairs. Keep an eye out for Eternalists above you again. At the top of the next set of stairs, take out the Eternalist in the hallway to your left, and then come back to the door. Step outside.

Turn left and double jump across the gap to the door. Loot everything you need, and then carefully open the door. Handle the Eternalists in the control room, and then cross to the back wall.

2-bit’s room in Deathloop

Hack the antenna to open up 2-Bit’s room. 2-Bit remembers you from loop to loop, so you’ll only be able to choose “Evacuate all personnel from the Planet” one time — he won’t do it for you a second time if you manage to kill Charlie. This will clear out the Eternalists.

In Orbit (Fourth floor)

Back outside, look to the left of where you entered for the Hi Everyone note. Continue around the floor and up the next flight of stairs to the [in orbit] floor. Head through the door under the stairs.

Read Charlie’s Minicom messages. To the left of the Minicom, grab the Scientific Achievement Unlocked cassette and Envisioned Invasion note.

Toss Charlie’s Bedroom

Charlie and Fia are getting it on in an undisclosed location. Luckily keeping secrets isn’t one of Charlie’s strengths.

Back outside, go to the double doors at the base of the stairs. Disable the mines as you cross the room, and then step outside. Keep disabling mines as you approach Charlie’s Sanctuary.

Commandeer the two turrets (if you’ve managed to avoid detection, they might be deactivated), and follow the room around to the right. Grab the Theme: Secret Society document as you round the corner.

Deathloop walkthrough: Space Invader Lead Image: Arkane Studios/Bethesda Softworks via Polygon

In the next room, turn left and grab the Letter from Wenjie note and the A Fulfilled Ego cassette. On the right side, look for the reel-to-reel and grab the A Little Kindness cassette and Theme: Audio Overdrive note.

To the left, look for the Photo of Fristad by the bed.

The Shift Slab

Cross distance in a flash, almost like teleporting. Charlie’s shifty as fuck.

If you haven’t faced and killed him yet, find Charlie — he should be marked on your HUD. Kill him, and claim his Shift Slab and Strelak 50-50.

Infuse and upgrade the Shift Slab

I’ve infused Shift. To upgrade it, I’ll need to catch someone with it again.

Head for the exit back the same way you came. When you get back to your base, Infuse the Shift Slab to make it permanent.

Just like Nexus, the Shift Slab has two upgrade slots and several available upgrades. On subsequent loops (and murders), you’ll get upgrades like Dropkick, Reach, and Airborne.

Search the Fristad Shore

That photo we found in Charlie’s bedroom tells us we’re heading to Fristad Rock in the afternoon.

Take the left branch when you exit the tunnels. Drop down to the water’s edge and follow the shore to the right.

Watch along the wall on your right for a small cave. Head inside to the Storm Shelter. Look around the room to pick up the Sullohern’s Last Words cassette and Intelligence Archives Access document. Check the whiteboard for the BQ Notes: The Icebox and BQ Notes: Horizon Bunkers.

There’s also a “complicated-ass lock” in here, but we can’t open it yet.

Deathloop walkthrough: Space Invader Lead Image: Arkane Studios/Bethesda Softworks via Polygon

Climb back up to the main path, and turn to the right to head back toward your tunnels. Face the giant neon sign. There’s a gap off to the left side. Head through there.

Deathloop walkthrough: Space Invader Lead Image: Arkane Studios/Bethesda Softworks via Polygon

On the other side, you’ll come to a military vehicle parking lot. Deal with the four Eternalists, and cross the lot toward the water.

At the shore, turn left and follow the water until you reach the bunker from the photo. Head inside.

Play the Watching Paint Dry cassette first, and then read the Order of Operations document. This gives us our next destination.

Find the Cipher

Now, we’re heading to Karl’s Bay in the evening. Our destination is the Yerhva, that fortune telling automaton.

Deathloop walkthrough: Space Invader Lead Image: Arkane Studios/Bethesda Softworks via Polygon

Take the left path out of the tunnels. Climb onto the wall ahead of you.

Deathloop walkthrough: Space Invader Lead Image: Arkane Studios/Bethesda Softworks via Polygon

Watch the two Eternalists blow themselves up with one of Charlie’s gifts. Follow the road to the right, and you’ll come to the Yehrva on your left.

Deathloop walkthrough: Space Invader Lead Image: Arkane Studios/Bethesda Softworks via Polygon

The safe we’re looking for is right inside the door. Open it and grab the Aesthetics are Key note — this gives us a code we need for “What Wenjies Want.” That finishes the Space Invader Lead and gives us a bunch of new clues about where to go next. Head for the exit and make sure to spend any Residuum you have left over. The day will restart once you’re done.
