Jeffrey Parkin (he/him) has been writing video game guides for Polygon for almost seven years. He has learned to love just about every genre of game that exists.

In Deathloop’s Updaam, there’s a tunnel and cave beneath Dorsey Square just outside of Aleksis’ mansion. In that tunnel, you’ll find a confusing map, a Scribbled Notes document, a triangle puzzle, and a safe that requires three three-digit codes to open.

In this Deathloop guide, we’ll walk you through finding and interpreting the clues, finding all of the numbers in the code, solving the triangle puzzle, and opening the safe.

  1. Find the map and the safe
  2. Find the code numbers
  3. Enter the codes
  4. Claim your reward

Dorsey Square cave safe, map, and Scribbled Notes location

Facing Aleksis’ mansion in Updaam, there’s a tunnel that runs left to right below your feet. On your right, the entrance is below the huge, red wolf’s head sculpture on the cliff. On the left, the entrance is in a valley — it’s along the path to the back door to Aleksis's mansion.

If you need directions to the cave, the fastest and easiest way is to exit the tunnels, go through the Candy Bar and out the back door (and kill the two Eternalists). Turn right, and follow the cliff to the HZN Door. Keep left again, and continue following the cliff edge. Kill the two Eternalists past broken railing, and head past where they were. Your goal is the rocky valley below you and the tunnel there.

In the tunnel, there’s a whiteboard, a map, a Scribbled Notes document, and some triangles drawn on the wall. At your feet, there’s a safe that needs three three-digit codes to open.

Dorsey Square cave safe code number locations

The map and the triangles point you to six locations around Updaam. Each location has one part of one of the three three-digit codes.

You’ll have to find them all and record them (like, physically write them down). We’ve labeled them on the map above with letters to save confusion.

Safe code part A

You can only find this code at noon. As you head into Charlie’s Condition Detachment — you’ll do this as part of “Space Invader” — look for the overhead door to the right. The number is above the door.

Safe code part B

It’s kind of hard to describe where this number is. In the tutorial, you likely headed this way on your way to your apartment. It’s where you see the “their trash your decoy” floating message. Look back up the way you came, and the number is near the ground.

Safe code part C

This number is next to the front door of the Library. Standing at the door, look to the left. The number is tucked behind a red panel — it’s a little obscured, so you’ll have to do a bit of jumping and guessing.

Safe code part D

Head to Otto’s Workshop — you’ll come here a couple times as part of “The Ballad of Ramblin’ Frank.” Facing the front door, move one building to the left and look to the

Safe code part E

Head to the Moxie. Facing the entrance, turn right. The number is on the tunnel overpass on the right side.

Safe code part F

Facing Aleksis’ mansion, turn around to your right. Follow the path to the first set of buildings. There’s a plaque here about “The Final Nights of Bad Luck Mary.” The number you’re looking for is right next to the plaque.

Assemble and enter the Dorsey Square safe codes

Your key to assembling the codes is the three triangles on the wall (including the one drawn on the map already). By overlaying the triangles on the map, you’ll get sets of three numbers.

The numbers for the codes and the shapes of the triangles change with every saved game, so yours might not be the same as ours.

Use the shape of each triangle and the icons — the ring and the skull — to fit each triangle onto the map. Do them one at a time working from the top. The numbers at the three vertices make up your codes.

For our triangles, we’ve got ABC, ACD, and AFD like in the gallery above.

Here’s the tricky part, though: That’s not the order.

The order of the digits is no slash at vertex, one slash at vertex, and two slashes vertex. This works for the first two triangles. The third one will take some guessing. Just work through your options — there’s a total of six combinations, so it’s not terrible. Just work your way through the numbers like ABC > ACB > BAC > BCA > CAB > CBA.

Keep working your way down through the three triangles to open the safe.

Dorsey Square safe reward

Inside the safe, you’ll find … 5,000 Residuum. We’re not going to say that the effort doesn’t match the reward, but you can judge for yourself.
