Death’s Door guide: Betty’s Lair Shiny Things and shrines

The Stranded Sailor, Castle Lockstone, the Camp of the Free Crows, and the Old Watchtowers have many secrets

On the way to fight Betty in Death’s Door, you’ll cross a huge sections with multiple areas before your fight: The Stranded Sailor, Castle Lockstone, the Camp of the Free Crows, and the Old Watchtowers. Our Death’s Door guide will show you how to find the shrines and Shiny Things in Betty’s areas, as well as other helpful tips.

Betty’s area has four shrines and eight Shiny Things. You can find the secrets below.

Betty’s Lair shrine locations

There are four secret shrines in The Stranded Sailor, Castle Lockstone, and the Camp of the Free Crows.

The Stranded Sailor shrine 1

Southwest of The Stranded Sailor, take the hookshot path. You’ll need to take out several enemies, all while dodging the gas bombs from one of the cannon-wielding guys from the Urn Witch’s Laboratory. After you defeat them, you’ll get access to a vitality shrine.

Climb up the mountain to the north of The Stranded Sailor. Continue on the path to the north, and climb up the nearby building. Destroy the ice blocking the path, and the camera will rotate to show a new path. Take the ladder down, and dive into the manhole cover. Follow this path to find a magic shrine.

The Camp of the Free Crows shrine

The last shrine is arguably the toughest. Outside of the Old Watchtowers and the Camp of the Free Crows, there’s a path to the south. It leads you to a slippery challenge that requires you to quickly hookshot anchors while activating platforms. You’ll probably fall off the cliffs and miss the timings many times, but persevere to find the last vitality shrine in the game.

From Castle Lockstone’s main entrance area, head to the northwest path and climb the ladder to the west. Keep following the path until you get into the room with several anchors for your hookshot. Shoot on to the closest floating platform with the anchor, and then shoot into the nearby keyhole window to the north. This will hook you, and you’ll go into the hole where there’s a hidden switch inside. Flip it, and hookshot to the gate that opens to get your shrine.


Betty’s Lair Shiny Things locations

There are eight secret Shiny Things across The Stranded Sailor, Castle Lockstone, the Camp of the Free Crows, and the Old Watchtowers: the Token of Death, the Captain’s Log, the Grunt’s Old Mask, the Ink-covered Teddy Bear, the Ancient Crown, Death’s Contract, the Shiny Medallion, and the Mysterious Locket.

The Stranded Sailor Shiny Thing 1 – Token of Death

On the route to The Stranded Sailor (in the mountains) from The Lost Cemetery, use the hookshot in front of the waterfall to get to the Token of Death. Though you can access this area shortly after unlocking the fire ability, you won’t be able to actually get the Token of Death until you have the hookshot.

The Stranded Sailor Shiny Thing 2 – Captain’s Log

Walk through a secret passage in the cliff wall nearby The Stranded Sailor, south of Pothead’s tent. The Captain’s Log will be sitting in plain sight.

The Stranded Sailor Shiny Thing 3 – Grunt’s Old Mask

In the Mushroom Dungeon room with the Hall of Doors door, there’s a trapped prisoner. Use the bomb spell to break him out, and meet up with him later at The Stranded Sailor. He’ll have the Grunt’s Old Mask next to him for the taking.

The Stranded Sailor Shiny Thing 4 – Ink-covered Teddy Bear

The Ink-covered Teddy Bear is to the southeast of The Stranded Soldier. You’ll need to hookshot across the docks and fight one of those big mace-wielding knights to get to it.

Castle Lockstone Shiny Thing 1 – Ancient Crown

In the room north of the main hall in Castle Lockstone, dive into the nearby sewer cap, and then go south out of the room. Keep following the path to find the Ancient Crown.

Castle Lockstone Shiny Thing 2 – Death’s Contract

In Castle Lockstone, as you light up the lanterns by the graves of the Door Lords, one of them will open a grate. Drop through it, head through the tunnel that’s partially covered by wooden doors, and follow the path. This will lead you to a room with shelves and the Death’s Contract.

Old Watchtowers Shiny Thing 1 – Shiny Medallion

Behind the cage lift that leads to the Old Watchtowers, there’s a keyhole in the wall. Hit it with your bomb ability to access a room that has the Shiny Medallion.

Old Watchtowers Shiny Thing 2 – Mysterious Locket

At the Old Watchtowers right outside of Betty’s Lair, there’s a path blocked with ice that will take you to a dead end. However, this area has doors that only open at night.

Once you beat the game and get the Rusty Belltower Key, you can climb the tower to the north of The Lost Cemetery (near the entrance to the Urn Witch’s Estate) and ring the bell to make it nighttime.

Once you do this, you can enter the area in the Old Watchtowers and pick up the Mysterious Locket.
