Destiny 2 guide: Savathun’s Song Nightfall walkthrough

Save your fellow Guardians … or what’s left of them

Bungie/Activision

Savathun’s Song is one of Destiny 2’s best strikes. Taking place on Titan, your Fireteam will plow through legions of Hive to rescue a group of missing Guardians. The Hive are not idling below the surface of the methane ocean. They have plenty of disgusting secrets for you to discover.

In terms of Nightfall difficulty, Savathun’s song is pretty high on the list. This has less to do with annoying objectives like in Exodus Crash and more to do with sheer enemy volume. Because your primary foe is the Hive, you will kill hundreds of enemies. Pack a rocket launcher and an auto rifle before you go.

Savathun’s Song Nightfall Modifiers

Timewarp: Anomaly

The gallery above shows the location of 20 Anomalies in the Savathun’s Song Nightfall. If you are able to locate and destroy all of these, you will add 10 minutes to your Nightfall timer.

Anomalies on Savathun’s Song is pretty simple, as the lighting makes the glowing squares very easy to see. Like previous weeks, the Anomaly modifier will scatter luminescent squares around the Strike that you must shoot and destroy to gain more time. For each Anomaly that you shoot, you will gain 30 seconds.

Depending on how you look at it, Anomalies on Savathun’s Song is much easier or much harder than on Exodus Crash or the Arms Dealer. On both of those strikes, the Anomalies exist in a few central locations, and there is at least one room that has an exorbitant amount of them.

Savathun’s Song is the opposite. No room seems to have more than four, but Anomalies are scattered throughout the strike. Take a look at the screenshots above and keep an eye out for the “Anomaly Detected” text that appears on on the left side of your screen. This should help ensure that you enter the boss room with our recommended time of seven and a half minutes.

Savathun’s Song Nightfall Strike glitch

It is worth mentioning here that a popular glitch works on this strike, allowing you to cap the time of this Nightfall, theoretically making things easier. However, it does involve your Fireteam splitting up a bit.

Proceed with the strike as normal, making your way through the Hive locked door. Once the three of you make it to the Arboretum, pick you fastest runner and have them return to the Solarium. Turns out, the Anomalies respawn if you move to another area and then go back.

Have one player run back and forth between the Solarium (where four easy Anomalies spawn) and the Arboretum while the other two continue the strike. Repeat this process until the “max-time reached” notification graces your screen. At that point, your Anomaly runner should rejoin the group.

While this strategy is powerful for some groups, it is subpar for others. If it is your first time through the strike and you have no idea where the Anomalies are, this strategy could save you a lot of time. (Once you reach max time, Anomalies no longer grant you 30 seconds.) However, if you know where the anomalies are, we found that running through the entire strike as a full squad is generally more efficient.

Momentum

Momentum makes Savathun’s Song a real pain. This modifier causes prevents you from regenerating health whenever you are standing still. You can see this happening when the red Inertia buff appears on your screen. To regain health, you must sprint, causing you to gain the green Momentum buff.

While gaining Momentum does cause your health to instantly begin returning, this is mostly a negative modifier. Hiding behind cover and taking shots at enemies is effectively impossible, because you will never regain the health you lost last time you popped out. This makes fighting Ogres, of which there are several in this strike, very difficult, as they deal high damage very quickly and are very accurate.

The easiest way to deal with Momentum is to run away from enemies, turn around to fight them, and then run some more. This method isn’t always successful, but it does work most of the time. However, you will probably die a lot in this Nightfall, so grab reliable friends.

It is worth noting that Hunter stealth is very good here, as you can go invisible and run around uninhibited to regain your health.

Savathun’s Song Nightfall walkthrough

Follow the Lost Fireteams

Bungie/Activision

When Savathun’s Song starts, hop on your Sparrow and roll across the shattered bridge and into the Solarium. Here, you will encounter your first Hive. Fight them off and push your way through the broken solar paneling from the campaign. To your left there will be a large grouping of Hive, kill them and scan the locked door.

If Anomalies are active, there are about five in this area: two before the solar panel and three in the Solarium.

Protect Ghost

Bungie/Activision

Ghost will need to unlock two Wards placed on the door. That is Destiny 2 code for “kill a few waves of Hive” — two to be exact. Each wave will come with several Hive majors, usually in the form of Knights and Wizards. Take them all out and avoid the Cursed Thrall constantly looming toward you.

Gain Access to the Arcology

Bungie/Activision

Once the door opens, a wave of Thrall will come pouring out. Soon, you will reach a big, green room with two Knights and a very difficult Ogre. Stay just outside of the door and shoot the enemies inside. If you have high damage supers like a Golden Gun, now is the perfect time to use them. When the enemies are dead, push forward and into the Arboretum.

The path here is very straightforward, and you can’t really go the wrong way. Fight down the dark corridors, taking the Hive. Eventually, you will reach a great neon room under the methane sea.

If Anomalies are active, keep an eye out as you travel through these areas, as several are scattered on the ceiling and behind walls.

At the top of the stairs, there will be a large collection of Hive and a very busy looking Wizard floating above a purple crystal. Defeat the Hive and the crystal will disintegrate, revealing a charge that you must dunk. Beyond the stairs will be even more Hive and a shielded Shrieker. Carry the charge to the dunk point to destroy the Shrieker. You may need to hide behind the walls to regain health.

With the Shrieker destroyed, walk forward and take a right. Jump down the massive pit, scan the glowing green crystal in the center of the room and head through the now open door. You will now be in a small cave, filled with Hive. Destroy your enemies along with the six purple crystals in the room. On the other side is a wide open area.

Storm the Hive-occupied levels of the Arcology

Bungie/Activision

This place is easily the hardest section of the Nightfall. There are multiple Acolytes, Knights, Wizards and Ogres in here, so move slowly and efficiently through it. Do your best to take on one major at a time, or blow a few decent area supers like the Shadowshot or Fists of Havoc.

If Anomalies are the active modifier, look for three of them in high places, as well as one off the building to your right and another in one of the waterways.

Once the room has been cleared, move through the doorway at the top of the stairs. Roll through the Hive tunnels to find another crystal cave. Repeat the elimination process from earlier and move through the door.

Disrupt the Hive Summoning Ritual

Bungie/Activision

You’ll find yourself in yet another giant area filled with Hive. Defeat the legion of Knights as well as the two Wizards hovering around another dunking crystal. Once all the Hive here are dead, have one of your teammates grab the crystal. With the crystal in hand, proceed down the stairs and through the door.

If Anomalies are active, have your crystal holder stay back and shoot the three in this area.

There are a lot of Hive in this area, including big Knights and several Ogres. Have the two non-crystal holders deal with the Hive while the holder acts as medic. (You can drop the crystal with the weapon swap button and shoot, but it will dissipate if you don’t pick it up quickly.) Move into the next room once the area is clear.

Once you get to the dunking room, clear out even more hive and run as a group toward the two shielded Shriekers. If you carrier dies, pick up the ball for them and carry it the rest of the way. Once the Shriekers are down and the door is open, proceed forward and defeat the two Wizards floating around the big crystal.

With the Wizards gone, jump down the hole. You will now need to push forward through the dark cave, ignoring or killing as many of the Cursed Thrall as possible.

If Anomalies are active, move through here slowly, as there are several of them to find.

When you reach the end of the cave, you will find Savathun’s Song, a giant Shrieker and this Nightfall’s final boss.

Boss fight: Savathun’s Song

Bungie/Activision

Savathun’s Song is a cool, if not somewhat obnoxious boss fight. When you first enter the room, you’ll see the giant Shrieker. She’s completely closed up. To open the enemy and begin the boss fight, destroy the crystal in the center of the room.

Savathun’s Song looks and behaves like a Shrieker. She has a streamed bullet attack like an Ogre, and she can even launch slow-moving bombs like the old Shriekers did when they died in Destiny.

To damage Savathun’s Song, you will need to shoot the center of her eye, which looks like an iris. However, this is not her only weak spot. The massive Shrieker has a huge crack on the opposite side of her iris. Shoot the glowing orange crack to deal precision damage.

This fight goes in phases but is pretty simple.

  1. Savathun’s Song will start in the center of the room and shoot at you. Deal enough damage and she will close, teleporting to the right side of the arena.
  2. She will now open again and spawn adds. Shoot her some more and she will close once again. Clear the room of adds to make her teleport.
  3. Savathun’s Song will return to the middle of the room for a brief bout. Lower her health some more and she will teleport to the left side of the room.
  4. Once you deal enough damage here and make her shut again, Ogres will spawn, as well as a legion of Acolytes. Kill all the enemies and Savathun’s Song will return to the middle again.
  5. This time around, the fight will be a little different. Lower her health as usual, but when she clams shut, she will move to the top pillar at the front of the room. A Wizard will spawn, guarding another dunking crystal. Kill the Wizard and climb up to Savathun’s Song, dunking the crystal into her little receptacle and destroying her shield.
  6. Savathun’s Song will then teleport back to the middle and more Wizards will spawn. Kill everything in the room, including the boss, to end this very long Nightfall.
