If you played Destiny, you may be familiar with Xur, the weekly exotic item merchant. In Destiny 2, he’s back, and he can now appear all over the map. This week, he’s on Nessus, just north of The Watcher’s Grave landing zone. There’s a helpful icon on the planet map to show you where he is.
Xur’s inventory this week consists of the following:
- Vigilance Wing, pulse rifle: 29 Legendary Shards
- Foetracer, Hunter helmet: 23 Legendary Shards
- Peacekeepers, Titan legs: 23 Legendary Shards
- Eye of Another World, Warlock helmet: 23 Legendary Shards
- Fated Engram: 97 Legendary Shards
- Three of Coins: 31 Legendary Shards
Each of the items comes at a maximum power level of 305 — a base power of 300, plus a Legendary (purple) mod that raises the value by five. This scales to your character’s power level, so make sure you’re buying Xur exotics on your highest level character.
Vigilance Wing
Vigilance Wing is one of Destiny 2’s coolest and most unique exotic weapons. It’s a pulse rifle that, due to its exotic perk Harsh Truths, fires in five-round bursts instead of three. (Harsh Truths also provides healing when an ally dies.) Vigilance Wing can do very high damage very quickly, especially if you hit an enemy in their critical spot. The tradeoff is how hard it can be to control.
The second exotic perk, Last Stand, gives better stability and handling when you are the last living member of your fireteam. Vigilance Wing is a PvP exotic through and through. That isn’t to say that you can’t use it in PvE, but it’s designed for action against real players.
If you aren’t a MIDA fan but still want to stay pretty competitive at medium to long ranges, Vigilance Wing can make a fine substitute. If you love the Crucible, pick this thing up.
Foetracer
Foetracer is easily one of the most powerful PvP exotics in Destiny 2. Its Relentless Tracker perk will automatically track enemies through walls and deal additional damage to enemies with low health. While the extra damage is nice, the utility of the tracking is what makes this helmet shine.
Peacekeepers
Peacekeepers are for the submachine gun enthusiast. Its exotic perk, Mecha Holster, will reload submachine guns when you store them and allow you to ready them instantly. This is OK at best. If you love submachine guns and want to roll with one or even two all the time, these are the pants for you. If not, you’ll probably find something else worth your Legendary Shards.
Eye of Another World
You may already have Eye of Another World if you selected it from Sloane right before the Utopia campaign mission. The Cerebral Uplink perk will highlight targets for you and passively increase the regeneration of your grenade, melee and Rift abilities. It’s a great catchall exotic for almost every occasion.
Fated Engram
The Fated Engram is new as of the Dec. 12 update. Buying one may be expensive, but it guarantees you an exotic that you don’t have. If you find yourself drowning in Legendary Shards and missing a few key exotics, this is a pretty great way to spend your Shards. You can only get one per account, once a week.
Three of Coins
This old farming buff has returned from the Destiny graveyard to help you farm exotics. Also new as of Dec. 12, Three of Coins is a four-hour buff that increases the odds of Exotic engrams dropping for you in the wild. Bungie clarified their effectiveness, and they don’t seem particularly worth the steep Legendary Shard cost at the moment.
