Destiny 2 guide: Grimoire cards

No web browser required.

In Destiny 2, Grimoire cards are gone. Instead, the game’s characters will tell the story through missions and cutscenes. Steve Cotton, world design lead on Destiny 2, said that the story unfolds within Adventures.

"All the story is told through the Adventures," Cotton told Forbes. "It’s told through the characters in the world, it’s told through the campaign, and it’s told through scannables you find throughout the world."

Destiny tells its story through Grimoire cards, tiny achievements players earn from even the most menial task. Unfortunately, these cards were not readable in the game. Instead, players who unlocked Grimoire cards had to visit Bungie’s website to read them.

It is unclear if there will be any kind of Grimoire card equivalent that allows you to read about the history of enemies or weapons in detail. Destiny has scannable objects that trigger voice lines from Ghost and other characters. The "scannables" that Cotton refers to could be reminiscent of Destiny or could be a new story device being added in Destiny 2.
