Destiny 2 guide: The Floor is Lava at the Tower

Geothermal Escapism at the Tower

The Tower in Destiny 2 has a few fun Easter eggs to find, like the giant Traveler ball and the The Floor is Lava Challenge. Successfully completing the Lava Challenge will make you glow blue and give you the Quickness buff, kind of like the Sentry 4 challenge did at the Farm.

It’s just a silly Easter egg that disappears when you leave the Tower, but it’s fun to have while you’re there. And it’ll get people asking, “How’d he do that?

Don’t Pick Me Up

To start this challenge, you have to get up above where you spawn at the Tower. Head up the slanted wall next to the Postmaster — the same wall you climb while trying to spawn the giant ball. In the middle of the catwalk that spans from left to right, you’ll find an object with the helpful tip, “Don’t Pick Me Up.” Pick it up.

It can be a little confusing to figure out the rules to this particular challenge on your own, so let’s break down what’s happening. When you pick up this object, the ground hurts you. You’re safe on this catwalk, so you’re not in a rush right away. But as soon as you step off the grating, you’ll start taking damage and die. And you’ll die fast.

Your job is to make it to a beam of light that appears, jumping from object to object, avoiding the floor as much as possible. Since jumping in Destiny 2 is … challenging, this is no small feat.

The beam may appear in one of three places at the far end of the Tower (in the direction of the Traveler). We’re calling these Left, Middle and Right based on facing the Traveler. The ways we get there in the video above are the ways that (consistently) worked for us. They’re not the only ways to get there, though. Follow our lead, but focus on doing what works for you.
