Head to the Tower for some exotics

Destiny 2 Xur Bungie/Activision
Ryan Gilliam (he/him) has worked at Polygon for nearly seven years. He primarily spends his time writing guides for massively popular games like Diablo 4 & Destiny 2.

If you played Destiny, you may be familiar with Xur, the weekly exotic item merchant. In Destiny 2, he’s back, and he can now appear all over the map. This week, he’s in the Tower, and there’s a helpful icon on the planet map to show you where he is. You can find Xur just north of the Hangar, standing on some steps behind the Dead Orbit vendor.

Bungie/Activision

Xur’s inventory this week consists of the following:

  • Suros Regime, Exotic auto rifle: 29 legendary shards
  • Gemini Jester, Hunter: 23 legendary shards
  • Crest of Alpha Lupi, Titan: 23 legendary shards
  • Claws of Ahamkara, Warlock: 23 legendary shards
  • Fated Engram: 97 legendary shards
  • Three of Coins: 31 legendary shards
  • Five of Swords: free

Each of the items comes at a maximum power level of 345 — a base power of 340, plus a Legendary (purple) mod that raises the value by five. This scales to your character’s power level, so make sure you’re buying Xur exotics on your highest-level character.

Suros Regime

Suros Regime is a fan favorite Destiny auto rifle that returned to Destiny 2 in the Warmind expansion. Its first exotic perk is Suros Legacy, which causes the bottom half of each magazine to deal bonus damage and have a chance to return player health on kills.

The second exotic perk is actually a choice between Spinning Up and Dual Speed Receiver. Spinning Up causes the firing speed of Suros Regime to rise the longer you hold the trigger. Dual Speed Receiver causes Suros Regime to deal more damage when aiming down sights but fire much slower.

Suros Regime allows changing play style on the fly, depending on the type of enemy you’re dealing with. There’s a reason so many players loved this gun in Destiny. On top of some great perks, it feels genuinely great to fire at enemies. This is a must-have gun for all players.

Gemini Jester

Gemini Jester is one of the new exotics added in Curse of Osiris. Its main exotic perk is Misdirection. If you dodge when near an enemy, you’ll disorient them, removing their radar if they’re a human player. This is a decent PvP exotic if you’re sick of running the classics. Just beware that you need to be close to be effective.

Crest of Alpha Lupi

The Crest of Alpha Lupi is an awesome Titan chest piece. Its exotic perk, Survival Well, causes supers to generate more orbs of light. Barricade will start health regeneration for nearby allies when deployed, too. This is great for some PvE content and extremely powerful in competitive PvP. Don’t miss this chest piece.

Claws of Ahamkara

The Claws of Ahamkara are new Warlock gauntlets added in Destiny 2’s Warmind expansion. Their exotic perk, The Whispers, grants any Warlock that wears these gloves an extra melee charge. Warlocks have some pretty powerful melee abilities, so these are great gloves if you love getting up close with your enemies.

Fated Engram

The Fated Engram is new as of Destiny 2’s mid-December 2017 update. Buying one may be expensive, but it guarantees you an exotic that you don’t have. If you find yourself drowning in legendary shards and missing a few key exotics, this is a pretty great way to spend your shards. You can only get one per account, once a week.

Three of Coins

This old farming buff has returned from the Destiny graveyard to help you farm exotics. Also new as of Dec. 12, Three of Coins is a four-hour buff that increases the odds of exotic engrams dropping in the wild. Bungie clarified their effectiveness, and they don’t seem particularly worth the steep legendary shard cost at the moment.

Five of Swords

Xur is now selling an upgrade for your Nightfall challenge card. It allows you to increase your score multiplayer on the Prestige Nightfall, allowing you to get more points each time you run it.
