The new prestige system for the Destiny 2 raid lairs challenges players in brand new way. Instead of adding new mechanics to each fight, players will need to adjust their loadout in very specific, unique ways. But the rewards are great: an exclusive 400 power raid weapon.
Each week, our guides will take you through the prestige affixes and loadout requirements. We’ll also offer suggestions on weapons you may want to take with you into battle.
The loadout
Kinetic: Auto rifle
Kinetic auto rifles are still pretty good in Destiny 2, even with most of the other weapons going up in power over the past few months. While only particularly effective in the mid-range, auto rifles will give you the chance to deal decent boss damage and easily take out adds. You’ll just need to rely on something a bit more long-range for the far away enemies.
We recommend: Sweet Business Exotic, Ghost Primus, Duty Bound, or Origin Story
Energy: Pulse rifle
The pulse rifle should end up being the perfect raid weapon for most players to take into the the lairs. They’re versatile in range and come with some very powerful perk combinations. The only problem with the energy pulse is how little damage it’ll deal to bosses. Considering the other weapons this week, that won’t be a problem.
We recommend: Graviton Lance exotic, Inaugural Address, Last Perdition, or Infinite Paths 8
Power: Sniper rifle
Sniper rifle week should be the easiest boss damage week so far, with multiple options that should shred through enemies. While there are a few legendary snipers that could be good here, you’ll likely want to reserve this slot for an exotic weapon — especially if you have the new Whisper of the Worm.
We recommend: Whisper of the Worm exotic. If you don’t have it yet, consider D.A.R.C.I. exotic, IKELOS_SR_v.1.0.1, or Alone as a God
The affix
Prism
Prism is going to be one of those modifiers that sometimes helps you and often does nothing for you at all. However, you can make it work to your advantage if you time it right, which won’t be possible in every situation.
Prism will cycle through the three elements on a set timer. If you can time the buff for Golden Gun, Whisper of the Worm, etc., you can greatly increase your damage.
This week’s strategy
Argos, Eater of Worlds
There is almost nothing different about this fight with this loadout and affix, and taking down the boss should be relatively easy and achievable for most teams this week. The key to taking down Argos quickly is to wait to take down Argos’ shield until right before Solar begins. Once the shield is down and the Solar prism is active, take it out with Golden Gun, Sunbreaker hammers, and Whisper of the Worm shots.

Val Ca’uor, Spire of Stars
Val Ca’uor is the more difficult of the two fights, but it should still be much easier than last week. There isn’t really much of a strategy this week, especially since the loadout for the fight isn’t far off from what you might normally use. Since you also can’t plan out your prism timings during the fight, you’ll need to execute normally. Thankfully, due to snipers, you’ll be able to hang out far away from Val Ca’uor’s missiles.
