Destiny 2 Xur location and items, Aug. 10-13

Head to the Tower for some Exotics

Destiny 2 Xur
Ryan Gilliam (he/him) has worked at Polygon for nearly seven years. He primarily spends his time writing guides for massively popular games like Diablo 4 & Destiny 2.

If you played Destiny, you may be familiar with Xur, the weekly Exotic item merchant. In Destiny 2, he’s back, and he can now appear all over the map. This week, he’s in the Tower, and there’s a helpful icon on the planet map to show you where he is. You can find Xur inside the hangar, just north of the Dead Orbit vendor.

Xur’s inventory this week consists of the following:

  • Prometheus Lens, Exotic trace rifle: 29 Legendary Shards
  • Celestial Nighthawk, Exotic Hunter helmet: 23 Legendary Shards
  • Doom Fang Pauldrons, Exotic Titan gauntlets: 23 Legendary Shards
  • Wings of Sacred Dawn, Exotic Warlock chest: 23 Legendary Shards
  • Three of Coins: 31 Legendary Shards

Each of the items comes at a maximum power level of 345 — a base power of 340, plus a Legendary (purple) mod that raises the value by five. This scales to your character’s power level, so make sure you’re buying Xur Exotics on your highest level character.

PROMETHEUS LENS

Prometheus Lens is a new exotic in Curse of Osiris. It used to be one of the most powerful weapons in all of Destiny 2, when a bug (now fixed) caused it to deal ludicrous damage in PvP. Prometheus Lens is still awesome for clearing out large crowds of enemies all at once.

The main perk, Prismatic Inferno, causes Prometheus Lens’ beam grow in size the longer you hold down the trigger. This allows the trace rifle to deal considerable damage in a large area. The gun’s secondary ability, Flame Refraction, makes the first perk even better, allowing kills to return ammo back into the magazine. The more kills you get, the longer you can hold down the trigger and increase your area of damage. It’s a fun gun and definitely worth the legendary shards.

CELESTIAL NIGHTHAWK

Celestial Nighthawk is one of the best exotics in Destiny 2. Its main perk, Hawkeye Hack, causes Golden Gun to fire only one shot instead of three. However, this single shot does about six times the damage of the average Golden Gun. Players who love raiding or PvE in general should buy it. It’s also exceptional for boss damage.

DOOM FANG PAULDRON

Doom Fang Pauldrons are pretty cool if you’re into the Sentinel Titan. Its exotic perk, Horns of Doom, causes shield bash kills to quickly recharge your shield throw while you’re using your Super. Additionally, melee ability kills give you extra super energy, and shield throw kills extend the duration of your super. If you like the top tree of Sentinel, this is a fun exotic that you can use in strikes. If you’re a regular Sentinel user, this is a must have.

WINGS OF SACRED DAWN

Wings of Sacred Dawn is one of the weirdest looking exotics in all of Destiny 2. Its exotic perk, Tome of Sacred Dawn, allows you to hover while aiming in the air, keeping you suspended for a short period of time. The more precision hits you get like this, the longer you stay up.

Wings of Sacred Dawn is very fun to use, but requires you to equip Dawnblade. Thankfully, Dawnblade has recently been buffed, making it far more viable than it used to be. If you like floating in the air and flinging fire, check this exotic out.

THREE OF COINS

This old farming buff has returned from the Destiny graveyard to help you farm Exotics. Three of Coins is a four-hour buff that increases the odds of Exotic engrams dropping in the wild. Bungie clarified their effectiveness, and they don’t seem particularly worth the steep Legendary Shard cost at the moment.
