Like always, Lord Saladin is back in Destiny 2’s Tower for Season of the Undying. This time, Iron Banner’s host has a new questline to earn Iron Banner items. If you’re in a competitive spirit, this quest is the best way to earn rewards from the monthly Crucible event.
Keep in mind that some of Destiny 2’s best weapons, like the Swarm of the Raven grenade launcher, only come from Iron Banner. If you want to turn in your Iron Banner tokens, you need to complete the quest first. Saladin won’t let you claim any of his engrams until you beat Scour the Rust.
Here’s how to complete the Scour the Rust quest in Season of the Undying.
Step 1: Spectacle

To get this quest, you need to talk to Saladin in the Tower during the Season of the Undying.
The steps for this section are very easy, and you need to complete them all in Iron Banner matches. You keep your progress from match to match.
Here are the steps for Spectacle:
- Capture 10 Iron Banner zones
- Kill 30 enemy Guardians
- Get 3 kills with your Super
Reward: Claws of the Wolf (Void pulse rifle)
Step 2: Intent

When you finish Sentiment, you’ll immediately move onto Intent — no need to visit Saladin. The objectives for all of these quests aren’t linear, meaning that you’ll likely have already completed certain objectives before you get to them.
Here are the steps for Intent:
- Complete 6 Iron Banner matches
- Capture 20 Iron Banner zones
- Kill 25 Guardians with a pulse rifle
Reward: Iron Banner gauntlets
Step 3: Timing

Timing continues the formula:
- Defeat 100 Guardians
- Capture 30 Iron Banner zones
- Defeat 20 Guardians with fusion rifles

Step 4: Execution
Execution continues the formula:
- Eliminate 15 Guardians with your Super
- Eliminate 15 Guardians with a SMG
- Capture 40 Iron Banner zones
Reward: Unknown
Step 5: Conviction
Conviction continues the formula:
- Capture 50 Iron Banner zones
- Complete 15 Iron Banner matches

Kill 10 Guardians with grenade launchers(see below) - Kill 10 Guardians with submachine guns
Note: Bungie announced that this step isn’t working correctly. Currently, you can only advance this step through submachine gun kills.
We’re investigating an issue where the Iron Banner “Scour the Rust” quest step, “Conviction,” says to land 10 Super final blows to earn progress, but also shows a Grenade Launcher icon.

This step is actually progressed by earning 10 final blows with Submachine Guns.

Step 6: Forgeborne
You’re done with Iron Banner for now. Return to Lord Saladin for your final reward. Congratulations, now you can turn in all of those Iron Banner tokens you earned for even more loot.
