Head to the Tower for some exotics

Destiny 2 Xur
Ryan Gilliam (he/him) has worked at Polygon for nearly seven years. He primarily spends his time writing guides for massively popular games like Diablo 4 & Destiny 2.

If you played Destiny, you may be familiar with Xur, the weekly Exotic item merchant. In Destiny 2, he’s back, and he now appears all over the map. This week, he’s in the Tower. You can find Xur hanging out on some stairs in the back of the Hangar.

Xur’s inventory this week consists of the following:

  • Sunshot, Exotic hand cannon: 29 Legendary Shards
  • Foetracer, Hunter helmet: 23 Legendary Shards
  • Helm of Saint-14, Titan helmet: 23 Legendary Shards
  • Sunbracers, Warlock gauntlets: 23 Legendary Shards
  • Isochronal Engram: 97 Legendary Shards
  • Invitation quest: 9 Legendary Shards

Xur’s inventory should cap out at 681 if you’re 700. He also offers specific rolls on each armor piece each week, giving out different perks for the same pieces. We’ve highlighted any great rolls below.

Sunshot is an exotic hand cannon that does Solar damage. It’s also one of the exotics you can choose on Io while playing through the campaign. Sunshot’s first exotic perk is Sunburn, which causes the weapon to fire explosive rounds and highlight enemies that take damage. Its secondary perk, Sun Blast, causes enemies killed by Sunshot to explode.

Sunshot is one of the best exotics in the game. Not only is it fairly useful in some raid scenarios like the Gauntlet, but it’s also just fun to use. You may not do great if you want this to be your main PvP gun, but you’ll still have fun while using it. If you don’t have one, get yourself a Sunshot this week.

Foetracer is easily one of the most powerful PvP exotics in Destiny 2. Its Relentless Tracker perk will automatically track enemies through walls and deal additional damage to enemies with low health. While the extra damage is nice, the utility of the tracking is what makes this helmet shine. Every Hunter should have this helmet.

This week’s roll:

Slot 1: Fusion rifle targeting, hand cannon targeting, Hands-on (melee kills grant Super energy)

Slot 2: Sniper rifle reserves, machine gun reserves

This is a pretty decent roll on a decent PvP Exotic. Hand cannon targeting is a great PvP perk. Foetracer is already pretty great, and this is a great roll on a great exotic — even in the packed Hunter Exotic landscape.

Helm of Saint-14

Another returning Destiny exotic, the Helm of Saint-14 is rarely useful in Destiny 2. Its exotic perk, Starless Night, causes your Ward of Dawn to blind enemies who walk inside it. Guarding with Sentinel Shield will provide the same result.

Unfortunately, there are few times where you want to drop Ward of Dawn rather than use your full Sentinel Shield. When using the block, this perk doesn’t activate easily enough to be useful. If you like the way it looks, pick it up for some tower fashion. Helm of Saint-14 is good in some situations, but not something you want to wear all the time.

This week’s roll:

Slot 1: Fusion rifle targeting, hand cannon targeting, Hands-on (melee kills grant Super energy)

Slot 2: Sniper rifle reserves, machine gun reserves

Hand cannon targeting is great for a lot of players, and Hands-on is designed for Titans. Machine guns are also really powerful in most builds, which makes machine gun reserves pretty potent. This Exotic is pretty situational, but the roll is decent enough that you should pick it up if you’re a Titan fan.

Sunbracers are powerful Warlock exotics for the Solar subclasses. Their exotic perk is Helium Spirals, which increases the duration of solar grenades. Melee kills also grant unlimited solar grenades for a brief time. These gauntlets are extremely fun to use and can be pretty powerful in wave-based modes like Escalation Protocol — when grinding for Hive or solar kills — or the weekly Nightfall.

This week’s roll:

Slot 1: Fusion rifle loader, hand cannon loader, impact induction (melee damage reduces grenade cooldown)

Slot 2: Sniper rifle scavenger, machine gun scavenger

This is a good roll on a decent Warlock exotic. Hand cannons are very popular and machine guns are useful in most situations. For the situations you’d want to use this exotic in, these perks can be pretty great. Consider grabbing this week’s roll.

This item starts the Invitation of the Nine quest. This week, Xur offers The High Priestess. It’ll cost you nine Legendary Shards.
