Ryan Gilliam (he/him) has worked at Polygon for nearly seven years. He primarily spends his time writing guides for massively popular games like Diablo 4 & Destiny 2.

The weekly Exotic item merchant, Xur, hangs out in random locations around the world of Destiny. In Destiny 2, he can appear all over the map, as well as inside the Tower. This week, you can find Xur on Io, standing inside a cave to your left when you enter the Giant’s Scar.

Xur’s inventory this week consists of the following:

  • Crimson, hand cannon: 29 Legendary Shards
  • The Dragon’s Shadow, Hunter chest: 23 Legendary Shards
  • Mk. 44 Stand Asides, Titan boots: 23 Legendary Shards
  • Starfire Protocol, Warlock chest: 23 Legendary Shards
  • Exotic Engram: 97 Legendary Shards (you can now purchase a second with an Exotic Cipher)

Xur’s inventory caps out at 1050 if you’re 1050 or above.

Crimson

The Crimson hand cannon arrived in Destiny 2 with the Curse of Osiris downloadable content. However, Destiny players may recognize it as an offshoot of the fan-favorite weapon from the original game, Red Death. Crimson’s first exotic perk is Banned Weapon, which causes it to fire in three-round bursts. Its secondary perk. Cruel Remedy, causes Crimson kills to heal the player. If they’re precision kills, the magazine is instantly refilled.

Crimson is an awesome hand cannon, capable of some real destruction in the right hands. This is one of those weapons that players will either love or hate, depending on their preferences. If you enjoyed Red Death in the original Destiny or just love pulse rifles (which also fire in bursts), this is a great hand cannon.

The Dragon’s Shadow

In terms of Hunter exotics, The Dragon’s Shadow is decent. Its exotic perk, Wraithmetal Mail, will reload all of the Hunter’s weapons when they dodge, and also increases movement and handling speed for a brief time after. This bonus is mostly valuable in PvP. However, Hunters already have Foetracer and other excellent PvP exotics to take. If you’re a hardcore PvP player or find yourself caught 2v1s frequently, pick this up. If none of that applies to you, skip it.

Xur’s roll this week comes with 63 total stats, pretty even across the board.

Mk. 44 Stand Asides

The Mk. 44 Stand Asides’ main perk in Destiny 2 is Seriously, Watch Out. If Titans have Seismic Strike, Hammer Strike or Shield Bash equipped and have max health, they get an Overshield when sprinting at max speed. Striking an enemy with those abilities quickly recharges your melee energy. This perk is great for aggressive Titan players, especially in PvP. If you have a Titan, pick these up.

Xur’s roll this week comes with 63 total stats and high Intellect.

Starfire Protocol

Starfire Protocol will rarely be a worthwhile exotic. Its perk is Fusion Harness, which grants you an extra charge of fusion grenades and causes fusion grenade kills to grant you Rift energy. If you love being a Dawnblade and using fusion grenades, then you should absolutely pick this up.

Xur’s roll this week comes with 64 total stats and high Recovery.
