Destiny 2 guide: Traveler’s Chosen Exotic sidearm, Exodus and Evacuation quest

How to complete the multi-week quest and claim an Exotic version of an old sidearm

Image: Bungie via Polygon

On July 7, Zavala started offering a new Destiny 2 quest to all Guardians: Exodus. The Vanguard leader needs players to help evacuate the four planets heading into the Destiny Content Vault later this season: Io, Mars, Mercury, and Titan. This quest will later lead to the Evacuation quest line.

So far, Exodus only provides some old, Year 1 rewards. But some extensive data-mining proves that this quest will eventually lead to an Exotic version of the Traveler’s Chosen sidearm, the first weapon Guardians ever wielded in Destiny 2.

This quest is free for all players during Season of the Arrivals, and does not require you to own the Season Pass.

Both steps are currently available in Season of Arrivals.

Step 1. Exodus: Preparation

Go see Zavala, and he’ll send you on a mission to prepare Ana, Asher, Sloane, and Brother Vance for potential evacuation.

Step 2. Preparation: Titan - Task at Hand/Fortifying Titan

Head to Titan and speak to Sloane. She’ll give you the Task at Hand quest. Complete one of her new, weekly bounties to progress the quest. When you finish the bounty, report back to Sloane and she’ll send you to Io.

Step 3. Preparation: Io - Novel Data/Plotting a Downfall

Land on Io and speak to Asher Mir. To complete the Novel Data quest, complete one of his new, weekly bounties. When you finish the bounty, return to Asher and he’ll send you back to Zavala.

Head back to the Tower and talk to Zavala again. He’ll give you a fully Masterworked Militia’s Birthright, which will unfortunately be sunset in just a few months. He’ll also send you to see Brother Vance.

Step 4. Preparation: Mercury - A Hymnal Opens/A Brother’s Guidance

Head to Mercury and go into The Lighthouse to speak to Brother Vance. He’ll give you a similar task as Sloane and Asher this week, so pick up one of his new, weekly bounties. When you finish the bounty, talk to Brother Vance again, and he’ll send you to Mars.

Step 5. Preparation: Mars - Braytech Support/Shades of Red

Land on Mars and talk to Ana. She’ll give you the final weekly bounty quest for this week. Complete one of her new, weekly bounties and talk to her again. She’ll send you back to Zavala.

This is the end of the Exodus quest, and Zavala will give you some Altered Element and the Exodus: Preparation Triumph.

Come back later for more quests.

Evacuation Quest Steps

Step 1. Summons from Zavala

Speak with Commander Zavala in the Tower.

Head to the Tower and talk to Zavala. It’s time to start evacuating Io, Mars, Mercury, and Titan.

Step 2. Evacuation: Io

Meet Asher on Io and tell him Zavala has ordered him to evacuate.

Head to Io and speak to Asher to start the first wave of evacuations.

Step 3. Observer Effect

Help Asher investigate the Pyramid’s influence on Io: Collect a sample from Taken Phalanx Barrism in Lost Sector: Sanctum of Bones located in the Rupture close to Asher Mir. Investigate the chest in Sanctum of Bones. Collect Traces of Corruption by defeating Taken on Io.

For this step, go to the Sanctum of Bones (the Lost Sector nearest to Asher on the map). Inside, you’ll need to collect 25 Traces of Corruption, which you’ll earn by killing Taken enemies. To finish Observer Effect, run through the entire Lost Sector, defeating enemies and collecting Traces. When you get to the end, defeat the bonus, Taken Phalanx boss to collect the sample, and then open the chest.

You’ll move immediately onto the next step.

Step 4. Into the Pyramidion

Complete the Pyramidion strike, and collect Scan Traces by defeating Vex anywhere on Io.

For this step, you just need to run the Pyramidion and kill Vex. Go to the Io map and launch the Strike from the Director. You should get all 40 Scan Traces just from running the Strike.

Step 5. Double Blind

Complete the adventure “Unexpected Guests (Heroic)” to learn what’s behind the spike in Taken activity.

When you’re done with the Pyramidion, open the Director again. You’ll see a mission on the map (it’s a blue crown on the left side of the screen). However over it and launch the Unexpected Guests Heroic Adventure.

Step 6. Fleischman-Aschheim Axiom

Return to Asher with your findings.

Go back and talk to Asher to finish off the Io part of the quest.

Step 7. Evacuation Titan

Meet Sloane on Titan and tell her Zavala’s concerns.

Land on Titan and talk to Sloane.

Step 8. Clearing the Decks

Defeat Hive Knight Dek-Thra in Lost Sector: Methane Flush located in Siren’s Watch near Commander Sloane. Open the chest in Methane Flush.

Just like on Io, you need to run a lost sector. Go into Methane Flush (the Lost Sector nearest Sloane on the map). You’ll need to kill some Knights in here and open the chest at the end. You should complete both steps as long as you kill all the enemies inside.

Step 9. Asset Interception

Open chests protected by Hive Ultras in the Solarium and Festering Halls to claim their Golden Age tech.

For this step, you need to defeat three big Hive enemies guarding three big chests, in both the Solarium and the Festering Halls.

This sounds like you’re going to have to do some hunting, but it’s actually very straightforward. Go to The Rig, and ride over to where you start the Savathun’s Song strike (you can see the Solarium on the map, so just head there if you’re confused). Jump over the long bridge and walk through the broken solar panel into the courtyard.

You’ll find your first Hive boss here. Take them out with any Special or Heavy weapon and they’ll spawn a chest. Open it. Now, move right (the opposite way as Savathun’s Song), through the doorway, the long hallway, and into the Fester Halls. You’ll fight another baddie here, who’ll drop another chest. Keep going this direction until you reach the final one.

Step 10. Be the Wall

Complete the strike “Savathûn’s Song,” and defeat Hive Ogres, Wizards, and Knights on Titan to collect Tech Fragments.

Next, you just need to do Savathun’s Song. Launch it from the Director like you with the Pyramidion on Io. You’ll need to collect some Tech Fragments as you go, but you should finish all of that prior to completing the Strike.

Step 11. The Will of Titan

Return to Sloane with your report.

Land back on Siren’s Watch and talk to Sloane. She’ll send you back to Zavala.

Step 12. Report to Zavala

Return to Zavala for further instructions.

Fly back to The Tower and talk to Zavala. He’ll send you down to Mercury.

Step 13. Evacuation: Mercury

Meet Brother Vance on Mercury and tell him Zavala has ordered him to evacuate.

Head over to Mercury and land at The Lighthouse. Talk to Brother Vance.

Step 14. A Shattered Future

Complete strike “A Garden World” and defeat Hydras, Minotaurs, and Cyclopses on Mercury to collect Timeline Fractures.

Launch A Garden World from the Director. You’ll need to collect Timeline Fractures from some powerful Vex. This one was actually pretty close, so make sure you kill each Hydra, Minotaur, or Cyclopes you come across. If you finish the Strike and need more, you can run A Garden World again or just fart around Mercury for a bit.

Step 15. In His Footsteps

Complete strike “Tree of Probabilities” and defeat Cabal on Mercury to collect Traces of Osiris.

Just like with A Garden World, you want to jump into Tree of Probabilities via the Director. In this one, you need to collect Traces of Osiris as you go, which you should easily complete during the first half of the Strike. Finish the Strike and move on to the next step.

Step 16. A Disciple’s Plea

Complete the adventure “Bug in the System (Heroic).”

Just like the Adventure on Io, you can launch the Bug in the System Adventure from Orbit via the Director. Complete the Adventure to finish off Mercury.

Step 17. Better Days Ahead

Return to Vance with your findings.

Head back to The Lighthouse and talk to Brother Vance. He’ll send you to Mars for the final leg of your journey.

Step 18. Evacuation Mars

Meet Ana Bray on Mars and tell her Zavala has ordered her to evacuate.

Fly over to Mars and talk to Ana Bray about Rasputin.

Step 19. Signs of Life

When you see “Mindlab: Rasputin” you’re in the right place
Image: Bungie via Polygon

Investigate Mindlab: Rasputin for a signal from Rasputin.

For this quest, you need to run toward Rasputin’s main core (basically through the Braytech facility). Halfway up, you’ll enter a dark room. Instead of dropping down, follow the new objective indicator into a small vent across the way. Crawl through and interact with a computer on the other side.

Now it’s time for some EP.

Step 20. Recycled Components

Defeat bosses in Escalation Protocol to collect pieces of Rasputin’s shattered frame.

You need to defeat five bosses in Escalation Protocol. This means end-of-round bosses. You’ll only get two pieces of Rasputin for the first few waves, but waves that have multiple bosses offer multiple pieces. We finished around wave four, including one Public Event wave. You won’t need to complete the final Escalation Protocol wave.

Step 21. Signal Shielding

Complete the adventure “Deathly Tremors (Heroic)” to stop the Hive interference.

You know the drill by now. Open your map and select the Deathly Tremors Adventure on the Director. Complete it and then land back on Mars.

Step 22. Force Reboot

Return to Ana with your findings.

Go talk to Ana and she’ll send you back to Zavala.

Step 23. Report to Zavala

Return to Zavala in the Tower.

Fly back to The Tower and chat with Zavala, letting him know you’ve evacuated each planet to the best of your ability. He’ll give you your new Exotic sidearm, Traveler’s Chosen.

What does Traveler’s Chosen do?

The Sand and Sun Exotic ornament

The Traveler’s Chosen is a sidearm from the very first mission in Destiny 2’s Red War campaign. It hit pretty hard, but didn’t have any perks. This new Exotic version offers several new perks, including some unique, Exotic ones.

Its Exotic perk is Gathering Light, which causes Traveler’s Chosen kills to generate stacks of a buff called Gathering Light. Holding the reload button absorbs the Gathering Light stacks to quickly recharge melee, grenade and class ability energy. The Gift of the Traveler perk also increases Traveler’s Chosen’s reload speed, handling, and target acquisition based on Gathering Light stacks.

Traveler’s Chosen also has an Exotic Catalyst, although we aren’t sure what it does or how to get it at the moment.
