With the first Guardian Games in 2020, Bungie added the Heir Apparent Exotic machine gun to Destiny 2. This year, the Heir Apparent is back for the second annual 2021 Guardian Games. But instead the lengthy Triumph fest that was last year’s quest, the 2021 Guardian Games offers a short, easy quest for the Heir Apparent.

In this Destiny 2 guide, we’ll go over the brief quest for the Heir Apparent. Note that Guardian Games 2021 runs from April 20-May 10, and you’ll be unable to get the Heir Apparent if you don’t complete the quest before May 11.

Complete Eva Levante’s intro quest

When you first land in the Tower during Guardian Games 2021, Zavala will want to talk to you. Head over and chat with him first. Pick up the Guardian Games class item for your chosen class. Then talk to Eva Levante near the podium in the middle of the Tower. She’ll give you a very short introductory quest line for Guardian Games.

The quest is “The Games Begin.” You’ll need to pick up 100 Laurels and then use those Laurels to buy a Contender Card. You must be wearing your 2021 Guardian Games class armor to pick up any Laurels. Run the Guardian Games Strike playlist in the Tower to get a bunch of Laurels quickly. Once you get back to Eva and buy the Contender Card, you should see the Wreathed In Laurels Exotic quest in her inventory. Grab it.

Note that if you earned the Heir Apparent last year, Eva will not offer you the quest.

Step 1: Earn 50 Laurels

For this first Wreathed in Laurels quest step, you need to pick up 50 Laurels. Just go back into the Strike playlist and work on your recently acquired Contender Card. You should be able to pick up at least 50 Laurels in a single Strike.

Step 2: Machine-Gun Focused

Once you’ve picked up 50 Laurels, you’ll need to defeat 100 enemies with a machine gun in the Daily Focus playlist. The Daily Focus playlist rotates between Crucible, Strikes, and Gambit. You can check which activity is the Daily focus by looking at your Milestone menu while using the Director.

Since you’re getting machine gun kills, you’ll need Heavy ammo. Guardian kills do give you bonus points, but Heavy ammo is much harder to come by in the Crucible. We recommend waiting to do this part of the quest until the Daily Focus is for Strikes or Gambit.

Once you get all 100 kills, you can turn in your quest to Eva for the Heir Apparent Exotic machine gun.

The Heir Apparent

The Heir Apparent is an Exotic heavy machine gun and it has two noteworthy perks. The first is Heavy Slug Thrower. To fire the weapon you first need to hold down the aim button, which causes the barrel to spin. Once it’s fully spun up, you can fire a hail of bullets at the enemy. Armor of the Colossus is the second perk, which gives your a powerful Arc shield if you spin up Heir Apparent at full health.

Guardian Games 2021 also gave Heir Apparent a Catalyst, which you can also earn through the event. It improves the Armor of the Colossus shield and causes kills to drop Orbs of Power. Check out our guide on the Heir Apparent Catalyst now that you have the weapon.
