Destiny 2 The Witch Queen guide: Altar of Reflection, memories of ruin, loss, insight guide

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen launched with A number of these missions that have interesting, yet sometimes confusing, puzzles like the Altar of Reflection.

As of the time of writing, there are currently four missions that involve these new rune puzzles: two in the campaign and two post-campaign. In this Destiny 2: The Witch Queen guide, we’ll break down how to locate each mission and how to solve the puzzles that come with them.

How to find the Altar of Reflection

For the campaign Memory missions, you can mark the Altar of Reflection on the map to give you a waypoint. The waypoint does get a little bit confusing in the “Miasma” region of Savathun’s Throne World, so follow the images below to get there.

You will then go down the tunnel until you see an orange portal, jump through and you’ll be in the correct area to start the Memories of Ruin and Memories of Loss missions.

How to get to Altar of Reflection: Catalyst

Getting to Altar of Reflection: Catalyst is very different, but you can still track it to get you to the location where you need to go. Instead of going into the portal to get to where the Memories missions took you, go around and follow the marker. After traveling quite a distance, you’ll make it to the marker. Near the marker, you’ll find a Deepsight white orb, activate it. This will reveal glowing markings on the walls. Position yourself so that the markings make the Savathun logo like shown above. This will open a portal and allow you to enter the mission.

How to get to Altar of Reflection: Insight

Getting to Altar of Reflection: Insight is a little tricky. If you track the quest, it’ll take you to above the Sepulcher Lost Sector in the Florescent Canal section of Savathun’s Throne World.

For this mission, you should go into the Lost sector, then go into the first major room. You’ll know you’re there when you see a Deepsight white orb in the middle of the room. Clear the room of enemies and activate the orb. Just like above for the Altar of Reflection: Catalyst, align yourself so that the glowing image makes Savathun’s logo.

How to solve the puzzles

Every time you enter the Altar of Reflection, you’ll have one of two puzzles to solve. The first is called “Cursed Pools.” In this puzzle, a few symbols will appear on the middle wall. Around the room, green pools will spawn with similar symbols to those on the wall. Run into the pools that match the symbols on the wall, in the order that they appear, reading from left to right. You will have to do this twice to proceed through the mission.

The second puzzle is called “Rune Patterns.” This puzzle has two different variants, but both work the same way. The way to solve this puzzle is to shoot the tiles that are different than all of the others. This can take place either on the center wall or around the room on the drums. There will be three tiles that do not match. Below you will see an example of the three tiles you would shoot if they were on the center wall. You need to do this twice, and on the second completion you’ll be granted access to the rest of the mission.
