Disney Plus original High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is getting a holiday special ahead of its second season. That’s right, folks. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series: The Holiday Special is going to be a thing.
The 45-minute special will reunite the cast as they perform “holiday classics, popular hits and a medley of Hanukkah favorites” and will premiere Dec. 11 on Disney Plus. The full soundtrack will be available a bit earlier, on Nov. 20. Olivia Rodrigo, Joshua Bassett, Matt Cornett, Sofia Wylie, Larry Saperstein, Julia Lester, Dara Reneé, Frankie Rodriguez, Joe Serafini, Mark St. Cyr and Kate Reinders all return for the celebration.
The first season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series followed a group of high school students putting on a production of High School Musical at their high school. With endearing characters and incredibly catchy musical performances, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is a fun, joyous, and surprisingly nuanced show.
The second season, announced in February, will follow the same set of students, but this time they’re putting on a production of Beauty and the Beast. Disney does indeed have a lot of musicals in their back catalogue to keep endless renditions of the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series formula going.
All episodes of the first season are available to stream on Disney Plus.
