The 2020 global COVID-19 pandemic shut down movie theaters, amusement parks, and every other kind of business under Disney’s umbrella. It was a rough year for the company, but in December, Bob Chapek, Disney’s chief executive, took to the stage to appeal to both stockholders and Disney fans about what’s still on the horizon despite everything that’s happened.
The call, which begins at 4:30 p.m. EST and is expected to last approximately four hours, will focus mainly on the company’s direct-to-consumer streaming services, which include Disney Plus, Hulu, and ESPN Plus. There are grand plans to launch a new international companion to Disney Plus that fills the void of Hulu around the world, and more micro plans, with new shows and movies set to expand the universes of Star Wars of Marvel, as well as the Disney canon.
By the end of the call, we should have a clear idea of Disney’s plan to adjust to the post-pandemic new world order, and buy time before vaccinations open states up and bring people back to the movies.
