Disney is joining the fray of remote viewing experiences. On Sept. 29, the company unveiled GroupWatch, a feature integrated into Disney Plus that allows up to seven different people to watch the same show or movie at the same time. The feature is currently available in the United States, but will expand to Europe later this fall. Previously, a test version launched in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
Much like Netflix Party, Disney’s GroupWatch requires all users to have their own separate accounts. You can start a GroupWatch experience by clicking on the icon under a title and sending a link to up to six other people. Links must come from mobile or browsers, but can be viewed via TV device or smart TV. Unlike Netflix Party, there is no chat feature just yet; instead, viewers can react with emojis.
