The Division 2 guide: How to get the Chatterbox Exotic submachine gun

Here are the steps to one of the game’s best weapons

The Chatterbox Exotic submachine gun is one of the most powerful weapons available in The Division 2. Its suite of perks make it a great choice for almost any loadout. Getting it takes some farming and luck, but it’s well worth the grind.

This guide will teach you how to get the Chatterbox’s blueprint, and all the pieces you need to construct your own.

Why is the Chatterbox so good?

The Chatterbox is an awesome submachine gun for any build. It’s a variation of the P90 and has some extraordinary perks. The goal is to hold down the trigger until everything is dead. All three perks will help you do that.

  • Incessant Chatter: Each shot increases your fire rate up to 60 percent.
  • Box Magazine: Kills reload the magazine and give the weapon a buff. While the Box Magazine buff is active, hitting shots increases the magazine size up to double. Killing another target with Box Magazine active consumes the buff to fully reload the Chatterbox — including the buffed magazine size, making it possible to have 120 bullets in the clip.
  • Blabbermouth: Other weapon kills grant a rate of fire buff if they’re reloaded within five seconds of getting a kill. Only works if Chatterbox is holstered.

Step 1: Farm Hyena Keys

The first thing you need to do is the most soul crushing. You’ll need to run through the underground passages in D.C. and collect Hyena Keys. In this quest, you need to open at least four Hyena Caches, so you’ll need at least four keys. Bring eight or more keys if you don’t want to backtrack.

If you need help finding keys, read our guide for farming The Division 2 faction keys.

With your keys in hand, it’s time to roam the world and open specific boxes. You’re looking for Exotic crafting materials.

Step 2: Find a Loaded Canister

You’re trying to get a Loaded Canister in Downtown East. It’s a random drop from one of the Hyena Caches, and it only comes from this area. Once you get it, stop opening boxes in Downtown East and move on to the next section. If you don’t get it, come back in 24 hours real world hours and try again. There are four caches in Downtown East. Here are their locations.

Open world cache 1

Head to Downtown East, and make your way into the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. The cache you’re looking for is under some stairs. You can see the map location and the box pictured above.

To the north of the library is another box. Go to the food resource node on the corner of 10th Street NW and H Street NW. Go into the mall and find the Meret store. You can see the box and map location pictured above.

Grand Washington Hotel caches

If you still don’t have the Loaded Canister, you can replay the Grand Washington Hotel mission. There are two caches hidden in the mission. The first is in a hallway bathroom in the business center. The second is to the right immediately after you walk onto the roof. You can see the map location and the box pictured above.

Step 3: Find a Creative Magazine

In Federal Triangle, you’re trying to get the Creative Magazine. It’s a random drop from one of the Hyena Caches and it only comes from this area. If you get it, stop opening boxes in Federal Triangle and move on to the next section. There are three caches in Federal Triangle.

Open world cache 1

In Federal Triangle, go to the oddly shaped building on Pennsylvania Avenue NW and 10th Street NW. There’s usually a Territory Control event going on in here. On the second floor, look for a fence with barbed wire on the top. The cache is sitting in front of it. You can see the map location and the box pictured above.

Open world cache 2

To the east of the first cache, go into the alley way off 9th Street NW and D Street NW. Find the ladder and climb it. Turn left and you’ll find the next open world cache. You can see the map location and the box pictured above.

Jefferson Memorial cache

If you have bad luck in the open world, there is one cache in the Jefferson Memorial mission. After you fight through the first room in the parking garage, go through the giant door and take a right. You’ll find the cache on a docking ledge. You can see the map location and the box pictured above.

Step 4: Find Modified Mods

In Judiciary Square, you’re trying to get the Modified Mods. It’s a random drop from one of the Hyena Caches, and it only comes from this area. If you get it, stop opening boxes in Judiciary Square and move on to the next section.

Open world cache 1

In Judiciary Square, look for the hollow, square-shaped building to the west of Dark Zone East off of Indiana Avenue NW. You’ll find the cache next to some gas masks and boxes. It’s in a doorway behind a turret. You can see the map location and the box pictured above.

Open world cache 2

Travel to Charlie CP for Dark Zone East. Walk out the door into Judiciary Square and turn left. Look right until you find a locked door leading to an ally. Shoot the lock, and climb the ladder. Open the door, and climb another ladder. Take a right, and the last Hyena Cache will be in front of you.

Step 5: Chatterbox blueprint

Once you’ve gathered all three pieces for the Chatterbox, you need to replay part of the Bank Headquarters mission in Downtown West. Make sure you have a Hyena Key before you do this, or you’ll have to leave and come back.

Play through the mission normally until you kill Rebound, the shielded Hyena. Grab his encryption key, and walk through both doors until you’re in an office. Look to your left and you’ll see a wooden wall with a white, sliding panel on it. Walk up to the panel and interact to find a secret compartment. Pick up the RFID key.

Continue the mission until you reach the bank vault. Inside the vault, look immediately left. There’s a gated area with a Hyena cache behind it. Use your new RFID key to open the gate, and your final Hyena Key to open the cache.

Congratulations! You now have the blueprint for the Chatterbox. Head back to your Base of Operations to craft it.

The level of your crafting table will have an impact on how powerful your Chatterbox is. Max out your table with crafting materials before crafting the Chatterbox. If you want to make another one for some reason, you’ll need to collect all three parts again.
