Powers, the television series being developed for PlayStation that's based on the Icon Comics graphic novel, will premiere this December on PlayStation Network in the U.S., Sony's Andrew House announced today during Sony's E3 2014 press briefing.

All PSN users will be able to watch the first episode for free, said House, the president and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment. And all episodes will be available free to PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Brian Michael Bendis, co-creator of Powers, came on stage to announce that casting and production are under way, and that more announcements will be coming this summer. Powers takes place in Chicago and centers on two detectives who deal with cases involving superheroes, who are known as "powers." The TV series' existence was reported earlier this year.
