Ex-Obsidian chief creative officer Chris Avellone is working on the new Prey

Arkane's reboot gets some veteran talent

Chris Avellone, Obsidian Entertainment co-founder and the company's former chief creative officer, is working on Bethesda Softworks and Arkane Studios' new Prey, the game developer announced today.

Avellone announced his departure from Obsidian last year, saying he was leaving the studio he helped form in 2003 "to pursue new projects." Today, he announced his involvement in Prey on Twitter.

It's not exactly clear what Avellone's role is on the new Prey, but we've inquired with Bethesda Softworks for more details.

Avellone started his career writing campaigns role-playing games, before joining Interplay in 1995. At Interplay, Avellone worked on a number of titles including Fallout 2, Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and the Icewind Dale titles. Later, at Obsidian and with inXile Entertainment, Avellone worked on Fallout: New VegasPillars of Eternity, Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides of Numenera.

Bethesda announced the long-rumored, rebooted Prey at its pre-E3 event tonight. Here's the game's official description, straight from Bethesda:

In Prey, you awaken aboard Talos I, a space station orbiting the moon in the year 2032. You are the key subject of an experiment meant to alter humanity forever — but things have gone terribly wrong. The space station has been overrun by hostile aliens and you are now being hunted. As you dig into the dark secrets of Talos I and your own past, you must survive using the tools found on the station, your wits, weapons, and mind-bending abilities.
