Electronic Arts revealed A Way Out, the new game from developer Hazelight and the creators behind adventure game Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, at its pre-E3 EA Play press conference today.

Like Brothers, A Way Out will be a cooperative adventure. This time, however, the scenario starts with a prison breakout and sees two inmates — Vincent and Leo — making their way through the countryside and reuniting with their families.

Creator Josef Fares said A Way Out will be an “emotional journey” and will feature “split-screen co-op only.” The game will be playable cooperatively online, but local co-op is where the game will shine, its creators say.

“To get the full experience and feel we want you and your friend to play it on your couch,” Fares said.

You can get a taste of A Way Out’s gameplay in the video below.

A Way Out is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One in early 2018, EA said in a release. A Way Out will be published as part of Electronic Arts’ EA Originals program, which helps fund and bring independent studio projects to life.

Hazelight’s debut project was originally announced in 2014, at The Game Awards.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, a cooperative puzzle adventure game, was released in 2013 and quickly become a critical and commercial success. Some of the game’s key creators later broke off to form Hazelight.

E3 2017 begins on June 13, with press conferences starting June 10. For the big announcements, make sure to check out our one-stop shop for the show's streams.
