Sony’s E3 press conference was light on details for the new Call of Duty: World War 2, but it did show off a gritty new trailer highlighting the game’s multiplayer mode.
Activision also announced dates for two multiplayer betas: Aug. 25-28 and Sept 1-4. The first weekend is exclusive to PlayStation 4. The second weekend is for all platforms, PS4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
Call of Duty: World War 2 takes players back to the European theater in 1944 and 1945, and features an American platoon as well as a cast of side characters including women resistance fighters, a soldier in an African-American unit (the U.S. Army was still segregated in WWII), a British officer and even a child. Its story is told from the point of view of Ronald “Red” Daniels, a rookie Private in the United States Army, 1st Infantry Division, also known as the “The Big Red One” and “Fighting First.”
The 1st ID is still an active division and has fought in every major U.S. conflict except the Korean War.
This is the first game to be set in World War 2 since 2009’s Call of Duty: World at War. The series was originally set in WWII but more recent games have focused on other time-frames, most particularly the future. Developed by Sledgehammer Games, it's due to be released on Nov. 3 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
