Kratos travels northward

God of War, the first PlayStation 4 entry in the franchise, is scheduled to be released in early 2018, publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment announced today during its E3 2017 press briefing.

A lengthy new trailer for God of War gave us a closer look at the relationship between Kratos and his son, who seems to know more languages than dear old Dad. There was also plenty of hack-and-slash combat on display, with enemies both large and small.

Sony revealed God of War at its E3 2016 press briefing with a gameplay trailer in which a much older Kratos went hunting with a boy — his son, we later learned — and had to fight off some monsters and take down a troll-like boss. Unlike in every other God of War title, Kratos will not be voiced by T.C. Carson in this game. Instead, Stargate SG-1’s Christopher Judge will step into the Greek demigod’s boots this time around.
