Nintendo confirmed that Super Mario Odyssey, the publisher’s next big Mario game, will head to the Nintendo Switch on Oct. 27.
The sandbox adventure game was announced by Nintendo in January during a special presentation about the Switch, but we got a first glimpse of the game in October. In the new video Nintendo played today, the game introduced dinosaurs, a couple of different hats with eyes, new worlds to explore and examples of different gameplay experiences players can expect to have.
With Super Mario Odyssey being a sandbox game, the different worlds that Mario can explore are one of the most important facets. In January, producer Yoshizaki Koizumi explained that a number of these settings are based on real world environments — New Donk City is clearly a stand-in for New York City. Along with New York City, the new trailer gave us a look at underwater environments, prehistoric settings and the desert level that we saw previously.
Super Mario Odyssey is the first new Mario platformer to be released for a console since Super Mario 3D World.
More information about the game is expected to be released in the coming days as Nintendo prepares for its two-day Treehouse broadcast.
