Nintendo confirmed today that the next Yoshi game will be released on the Switch in 2018.
The game was announced during Nintendo’s E3 Spotlight today, along with a look at gameplay. Like other Yoshi games, the new title includes the adorable character running through a series of levels with a number of eggs trailing behind him. There are papier-mache and cardboard items that players can use and interact with.
The last Yoshi game released by Nintendo was Yoshi’s Woolly World in October 2015 for the Wii U. It was ported to the 3DS earlier this year as Poochy and Yoshi's Woolly World.
Nintendo is also expected to demonstrate gameplay and new looks at other upcoming Switch titles, including Super Mario Odyssey. Prior to E3, Nintendo president and COO, Reggie Fils-Aime, confirmed the direct would focus heavily on Odyssey, and a number of other titles headed to the Switch later this year and next.
More information about the Yoshi game, along with other titles Nintendo announced today, is expected to be announced during Nintendo’s Treehouse livestream. The two-day event may include additional gameplay and announcements that weren’t seen during the Spotlight today.
Update: Dana Cowley, Epic Games’ spokesperson, said this Yoshi game will be made with Unreal Engine.
