Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will launch on Nintendo Switch during the 2017 holiday season. That makes it one of the marquee Switch games for the system’s first holiday period, which is why Nintendo gave it plenty of airtime during its E3 2017 Direct presentation.
The sequel to 2010’s Xenoblade Chronicles, a role-playing game for Wii, will follow a group of new heroes as they set out for the land of Elysium. These new heroes are a pair of swordsmen named Rex and Pyra, both of whom featured heavily in the first gameplay footage shown during the presentation.
Xenoblade Chronicles won acclaim as one of a handful of lengthy role-playing games to be exclusive to Nintendo Wii. A port later launched exclusively for New Nintendo 3DS just after that handheld hit retail in 2014.
We’ll see more of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 later this year — or perhaps during Nintendo’s E3 2017 Treehouse livestream. It kicks off immediately after the Nintendo Direct at 9:30 a.m. PT.
