Bowser needs help in Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions gameplay video

Poor Bowser

Nintendo surprised viewers today with the announcement that Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions would be headed to the 3DS this fall. The publisher made the announcement during its Treehouse Live stream, where other games including Super Mario Odyssey and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle were shown.

Right after playing the reveal trailer, Treehouse Live employees demonstrated about 30 minutes of game footage, which can be seen above. Like Metroid: Samus Returns, Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions is a reimagining of sorts. Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga was originally released in 2003 for the Game Boy Advance. Bowser’s Minions, Treehouse confirmed, is an entirely new, almost full-length campaign that players will also be able to get their hands on.

In Bowser’s Minions, players take control of Captain Goomba. The goal is collect as many minions as possible and save Bowser who, according to the Nintendo reps on screen, is going through a bit of a hard time. The new addition to the game is played at length in the video.

Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions will be released on Oct. 6 for the 3DS.
