Lara Croft’s journey looks as harrowing as ever in the extended trailer of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, shown during the Xbox E3 media briefing the Sunday before E3.
We saw Lara solving puzzles inside of a Mayan temple, then making a dangerous escape down a rushing river. The trailer refers to a “cleansing,” an event she triggers by pulling a knife from its resting place inside the temple, which Polygon went hands on with when the game was announced in April.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the third game of the rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy, which started out with 2013’s Tomb Raider, and was followed up with Rise of the Tomb Raider two years later. The action-adventure title’s gameplay is a mix of set-piece traversal, combat with more traditional series puzzle solving. While the original two games were developed by Crystal Dynamics, Square Enix’s Edios Montreal studio si taking the reigns for this next installment, which is being called the final chapter in Lara’s origin story.
The game launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Sept. 14 2018. We’ll have additional information about the game through E3.
