Lara takes on Trinity in Central American jungles

Lara Croft’s journey looks as harrowing as ever in the extended gameplay preview of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, shown during Square Enix’s pre-taped presentation Monday morning at E3.

Lara skulked her way around an enemy camp in a lush jungle, utilizing weapons and techniques we’d seen from previous titles, including sniping enemies from the distance, sneak attacks and molotov cocktails.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider game director David Bisson, of studio Edios Montreal, described this gameplay as Lara “becoming one with the jungle.” He also mentioned the game would have new elements, like grappling hooks and wall running, as well as “full 360-degree swimming,” which likely will have Lara exploring underwater environments.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s reveal at the end of April gave us some idea of Lara Croft’s storyline going forward, as the first demo had her exploring a Mayan temple in a village in Mexico, facing off against her recurring nemesis, the militarized, global-domination-seeking group Trinity.

The game launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Sept. 14 2018. We’ll have additional information about the game through E3.
