During the Ubisoft E3 2018 press conference, Julian Gerighty the creative director on The Division 2 to give fans their first real information on the game including the announcement of end-game eight person raids.
The raids will be delivered post release as DLC for the game. “We will be launching three DLCs in form of episodes. each one will bring new story new areas to explore and new activities. and the best part: all of these episodes will be completely free for everyone,” Gerighty said during the conference. Each of these raids will be set after the events of the game’s main story.
Much like we saw at the Microsoft press conference, The Division 2 will take place in Washington D.C., seven months after the initial Black Friday terrorist attack that led America to a state of panic and martial law. In the first game, most of New York — the game’s setting — was already under the control of rival factions and players were tasked with taking the city back. In The Division 2, players will be tasked with stopping this before it happens, attempting to ensure that D.C. does not fall into the wrong hands.
The game will focus far more on classes and the unique features of each character. When players reach the end of the story mode, they will be given the choice of a variety of unique weapons that will allow players to specialize their characters based on their play style and their place in a squad. These will include three distinct specializations that will allow players to have unique progression systems and skills that will help them fill different roles for their squad during raids and other end-game activities.
The Division 2 will be released on March 15, 2019, on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC and will run a closed beta test sometime before launch.
