A fan-made remix for CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 E3 trailer, which debuted at Microsoft’s Xbox press conference, is hyping up fans of The Witcher for a cameo that many hope will tie the two franchises together.
Fans who played The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt may remember a conversation between Geralt and Ciri, in which the latter character talks about one of the worlds she visited while attempting to outrun Eredin Bréacc Glas. In the game, Ciri speaks of other worlds and time periods she’d traveled to.
“I traveled,” she tells Geralt, “through time, space, different worlds. I saw houses of glass, ran with unicorns at the world’s end, even lived in an undersea kingdom for a time.” In another exchange, Ciri tells tales of worlds with futuristic technology, which was widely interpreted by fans to be a reference to the Cyberpunk franchise. Here’s her dialogue:
Geralt: The world where Eredin couldn’t find you, what was it like?
Ciri: You wouldn’t believe me if I told you.
Geralt: Try me.
Ciri: People there had metal in their heads, waged war from a distance, using things similar to megascopes. And there were no horses, everyone had their own flying ship instead.
Geralt: Ciri, stop fooling around.
Ciri: Told you you wouldn’t believe me. Ah, we should’ve stayed there...
YouTube user Tolkfan spliced Ciri’s dialogue together in the video above (which also includes Hi-Finesse’s “Dystopia,” which you might have heard in a Doctor Strange trailer) in a way that cements the connection between The Witcher and Cyberpunk. And, as Tolkfan rightly points out, “If she doesn’t have a cameo, there will be riots.”
Ciri appearing in Cyberpunk 2077 is something fans have speculated about and hoped for for years, even in the form of fan art and cosplay.
