Vermintide 2 is getting a versus mode

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a solid Left 4 Dead-style game that takes place in the Warhammer universe. A band of Warhammer fantasy heroes band together to take down hordes of Skaven, which include powerful enemies with ratling guns, poison bombs, and stabbing knives. Now that Vermintide 2 has covered lots of ground with us playing the heroes, its time to flip the script. In the newly announced versus mode, players will get to take the role of the Skaven and hunt down the filthy man-things.

Versus mode was also part of Left 4 Dead, and it was one of the best parts of the game. In the Vermintide trailer, we saw players taking the role of nearly every special Skaven enemy type. Obviously, the perspective is different — you have different weapons, and you’re closer to the ground — but the biggest change will likely be in play style. Finding lone survivors, picking players off, and maximizing the impact of special abilities will make the difference between dying in fire or successfully taking down a Bright Wizard. There are still a few questions — how does playing a Rat Ogre work? — but we can expect more details to come as Versus enters beta.

Vermintide 2 is available on the Xbox One and PC. It can be played via the Xbox Game Pass.
