Elden Ring guide: How to two-hand weapons

Got a big sword? Grab it with BOTH HANDS

Elden Ring, like Dark Souls and Bloodborne before it, gives players access to huge weapons, like colossal swords and giant axes, that are better held with two hands. But Elden Ring changes the control scheme familiar to “Soulsborne” players in various ways, included how one two-hands weapons for maximum impact. If you find yourself confused by the button prompt that shows you how to dual wield weapons in Elden Ring, don’t worry: You’re not alone!

Here’s how to dual-wield those big Elden Ring weapons: When holding a weapon normally, press the following buttons, assuming you’re carrying your main weapon in your right hand:

  • PS4 or PS5 controller: Triangle + R1
  • Xbox One or Xbox Series X controller: Y + RB
  • Windows PC (with keyboard and mouse): E + right click

Perform the same input again to revert to a single-hand weapon stance.

Similarly, you can also two-hand the weapon, shield, or staff in your left hand doing the same thing, but with the L1, LB, or left click, depending on platform and control set up.

It may feel a little awkward at first, but soon it will become second nature.
