Last summer, Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame consumed every ounce of multiplex attention to the tune of $2.7 billion worldwide. This summer, the annual May-timed Marvel movie hits theaters on Nov. 6, 2020. There’s a question of whether any movies will see light of the bright summer day, as multiplexes remain closed do to the global coronavirus pandemic. The situation is unlike any other in modern history, and full of unknowns.

In that way, the pop culture we do have slated for the season is even more valuable. While a summer preview can be a breezy look ahead at the vacation months, we hope our 2020 edition is hope-filled look ahead. There are still movies on the release calendar, including the latest from Christopher Nolan, who is apparently doing everything humanly possible to help movie theaters reopen in a safe and encouraging way. TV and streaming will continue to fill the gaps of absent tentpoles, with everything from Steve Carell’s new sitcom Space Force to a handful of quality anime series and an American Gladiators-esque take on tag. Though the future of comics was in question just a month ago, DC and Marvel are both prepared to ship their summer event series to shops, at a time when we could all use a little escape.

The summer is here, whether we’re inside or not, so let’s figure out what to watch, read, and enjoy. Check back throughout the week for more preview coverage.
