Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead’s new film Synchronic might give Tenet a run for its money as the time-bending movie of the year.
Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan star as Steve and Dennis, paramedics in New Orleans who become caught up in a series of gruesome accidents left in the wake of a new drug. The effects of the drug ripple into Steve and Dennis’ lives, as Dennis’ daughter mysteriously disappears, and Steve begins taking the drug after receiving a fatal diagnosis.
The trailer shows Steve seemingly jumping through time and all over the world thanks to the effects of the drug, and even trying to film a video of himself taking it in order to prove the drug is doing what he thinks it is. Though the film certainly seems to have more of a science fiction bent than Tenet does, as well as more psychedelic visuals, Steve and Dennis are forced to reckon with shifts in time and a ticking clock.
The film is set to hit theaters and drive-ins on Oct. 23.
