Final Fantasy 14’s final major update for the Shadowbringers expansion, patch 5.5, drops on April 13, 2021 with tons of new content for players to dive into.

The patch includes the final part of the Nier: Automata crossover alliance raids, new additions to the main scenario quest, as well as the ending to the Sorrow of Werlyt side quests, which featured the Weapons from Final Fantasy 7 as trials.

Below we’ve outlined some of the biggest new features that patch 5.5 adds.

Fight Diamond Weapon in the Cloud Deck

After completing some prerequisite quests in The Lochs, you’ll be able to fight Diamond Weapon to finish off the Sorrow of Werlyt questline. After fighting it, you will be able to unlock the Extreme version of the fight from a nearby NPC.

Taking down the Extreme version of Diamond Weapon will reward one random weapon and a totem. You can turn in 10 totems for a weapon of choice. The special dragon mount will also rarely drop from the Extreme version of the Diamond Weapon fight.

Finish off the Nier: Automata raids in the Tower at Paradigm’s Breach

The last alliance raid for Shadowbringers will also be released in patch 5.5, allowing players to wrap up the Nier crossover storyline. Completing the raid will allow players to get one piece of item level 520 gear per week.

You’ll be able to unlock The Tower at Paradigm’s Breach from the Dig Site Chief NPC in Kholusia, as long as you’re caught up with previous patches’ quests.

Upgrade your Cryptlurker gear by doing Nier alliance raids and hunts

Prior to patch 5.5, the only way to upgrade your Cryptlurker gear to Augmented Cryptlurker stuff was to complete Savage raids. Now you’ll be able to trade in Sacks of Nuts from hunts or coins from the Nier alliance raids to get the necessary Crypt Twine and Crypt Dusting to upgrade your gear. This will set you up very nicely for the upcoming Endwalker expansion.

You’ll need one coin from each Nier alliance raid to get one Twine or Dusting. You can trade coins for Twine or Dusting to Fathard in Eulmore. You can also trade 3,000 Sacks of Nuts for one Twine or 2,000 Sacks of Nuts for one Dusting to Ilfroy in Eulmore or Xylle in the Crystarium.

Unlock the fancy Shadowbringers dragon mount, if you have the other mounts

If you’ve been collecting the different dragon mounts from the various Extreme trials throughout Shadowbringers, you can now claim your fancy dragon mount. This dragon actually looks like a mech, as opposed to one of the colored dragons that came before it, and it can be picked up from the Warmachina Fanatic NPC in The Lochs. You can only claim it if you have all of the dragon mounts, including the one that Diamond Weapon will drop.
