This week’s Fortnite update has been released after a short delay, so we can take a good, hard look at whether the last 24 hours of waiting have been worth it. And our reaction thus far is: Apples? In Fortnite? Finally!
Here are the top five things to look out for in today’s patch.
Apples
The fruit can be “uncommonly” found among trees on the map, and will grant you five HP if you eat one, up to 100 HP. This isn’t a huge change, but having a snack in the middle of a match is rarely a bad idea, so enjoy.
Upgraded burst assault rifle
The burst assault rifle has been given epic and legendary flavors in this new update, with the following changes:
- Can be found in Floor Loot, Treasure Chests, Supply Drops, and Vending Machines.
- Does 32 / 33 damage (Epic / Legendary).
- Uses Medium Ammo.
- Uses the same damage fall-off ranges as other Assault Rifles.
Get more control over your perks in Save the World mode
You’ll be able to use the new Perk Recombobulator to choose and upgrade the perks on your weapons and traps in Save the World mode, a system that has been discussed since the debacle with Dragon Weapons back in March.
This process will use the following brand-new resources that will be available in the Event Store, as well as by completing different objectives around the map:
- RE-PERK (used to both change and upgrade perks)
- PERK-UP (used to upgrade perks)
- FIRE-UP (used to switch element to fire)
- AMP-UP (used to switch element to nature)
- FROST-UP (used to switch element to water)
Save the World mode gets a quad launcher
It fires four rockets that leave behind balls of fire after they explode. Sounds like a good way to clear a lot of enemies very quickly.

New sounds for players above you in Battle Royale
This is going to be interesting in practice.
“To help differentiate between above/below footstep sounds, we’ve added an additional layer to steps that are above you based on the surface type,” the Fortnite team wrote in the patch notes. “Wood has creaks, Stone has crunches and gravel noises, and Metal has rattles.”
Get used to the new sounds to get an advantage when looking for your prey.
That’s not all!
A series of other, smaller changes will also come with today’s patch. The Impulse Grenade Drop Rate has been increased by five percent, and damage dealt by the suppressed machine gun has been increased by three percent. There is now no longer a delay between selecting a grenade and the ability to aim it, which should be an interesting change in the hands of nimble players.
You can read about the rest of the updates in the official patch notes.
