Lil Yachty, Murda Beatz and more team up for Fortnite song, video

Continuing the relationship between rap and Fortnite

Fortnite has caught the attention of rappers, but a new song and video from Murda Beatz, Lil Yachty, Ski Mask the Slump God and Yung Bans takes admiration for the game to a whole new level.

Murda Beatz, a Canadian beatmaker who works with some of the biggest names in rap, uses a re-worked version of Fortnite’s orchestral music from the game’s most recent season. Fortnite fans will recognize parts of the score in the track, which features the vocal stylings of the three aforementioned rappers. The rest of the song has nothing to do with Fortnite, really. There aren’t any references to shopping carts or piñatas.

The song’s lyrics focus mainly on blunt references to sexual acts and overtly violent situations. It’s a stark juxtaposition to the video, seen above, and the song’s subject. Fortnite is often praised for its colorful environment and fun-for-all-ages ambience, which is something that can’t be said for the song in question.

Still, this is just further proof that Fortnite is one of the biggest games in the world right now. The video features some of Fortnite’s most popular dances, and reiterates that everyone from Lil Yachty and Ski Mask the Slump God want to rap about the game they’re currently playing. Both Yachty and Drake recently played a couple of Fortnite rounds with Ninja, the most popular Fortnite streamer in the world. Myth, another popular streamer, even teamed up with DJ Dillon Francis to create a Fortnite music video for Francis’ newest track.

Clearly the Fortnite music video fad isn’t going anywhere soon. Maybe the Shiggy Challenge, a new dance phenomenon inspired by a Drake track, will even find its way into Fortnite as a new emote, bringing the whole relationship between rap, dance and Fortnite full circle.
