Fortnite’s latest update adds the Shockwave Grenade

Get ready to do some flying

Today’s content update for Fortnite is supposed to improve stability while making a few other, minor changes to the game. That being said, I think we have to talk about the Shockwave Grenade, Fortnite’s newest item. You can watch the grenade in action in the trailer at the top of this post.

Here’s the official description from the patch notes:

Shockwave Grenade added:

  • Shockwave Grenade will knock players back and destroy objects in their path after being knocked back.
  • Allies, enemies, and vehicles hit with Shockwave Grenade will not take fall damage.
  • Drops in stacks of 2, maximum stack size of 6.
  • Epic Rarity.
  • Can be found in Supply Drops, Vending Machines, Llamas, and chests.

You can use the Shockwave Grenade as a kind of no-damage rocket jump if you need to get somewhere fast, or you can use it to knock your enemy out of position if you’re in the middle of a tactical situation that’s not to your advantage. The fact that it blasts through walls is also going to have some major implications for late-game strategies as players attempt to blast each other into the storm, or you can blast ourself off a high structure without taking any falling damage. Expect players to get creative with those abilities.

People are already posting some big plays using the grenade:

The only other announced change this week is an adjustment to the 50v50 limited-time mode that makes all weapons and items on the map legendary quality, but the Shockwave Grenade is clearly the star of the show.
