Fortnite’s newest glitch launches players out of a dumpster, into the sky

Beware the “dementor”; Epic rep says they’re working on it.

Hiding in a Dumpster in Fortnite is inadvisable for the time being, because of a bug that launches players out of the bin and into the stratosphere.

The bug is called the “dementor,” and Redditor Bigdog-475 pointed it out yesterday. In the video, the player’s character disappears in a puff of smoke and ascends into orbit. When they land, they take falling damage, and it’s enough to kill them.

An Epic Games community manager popped into the Reddit thread to acknowledge the glitch and say a report had been filed. Although it can be comical to watch, it’s no fun for those caught by it, especially if they’re playing solo and have no one to revive them.

The “dementor” bug seems to have arrived with the Fortnite Chapter 2 update that came earlier this week. It brings a brand-new map, revamped some weapons, and changed how progression works for collecting Battle Pass items. We’re keeping a running list of the changes; players right now are complaining that the new chapter is kind of grind-y.
