Officially called “Wick’s Bounty,” references to Wick and data-mined details about the mode were already found by players over the past week. Epic’s post this morning confirms a lot of what was already known. Players collect gold tokens by eliminating other bounty hunting players. An elimination pays out (to the killer) all of the tokens that were being carried (by the kill-ee).
The more tokens players earn, the more visible they will be on other players’ maps when moving or shooting — and the top 3 token leaders will always be shown on the map and compass. Players are limited to three respawns.
In a nice touch, Epic’s brief teaser shows Wick offing The Reaper skin, which had been a John Wick stand-in since Fortnite season 3.
Rewards for the free challenges include the Gold Token Back Bling, One Shot Glider and Boogeyman Wrap. Fortnite’s shop also has the “John Wick Set” for sale — that includes the Keanu-styled outfit and the Simple Sledge pickaxe. The patch notes have more details.
The mode isn’t just timed to the premiere of John Wick Chapter 3 — Parabellum on Friday. Epic also used the announcement to plug John Wick Hex, the action-strategy game by Bithell Games, available later this year exclusively on the Epic Games Store.
