Fortnite Chapter 2 season 4 is right around the corner, but most of the details about the new season are still a mystery. While previous seasons have had teaser images ahead of their release, this one has entire prologue comics which seems to suggest that a Marvel crossover is in the works.
Before the season officially kicks off, here’s everything we know about Fortnite season 4.
When does Fortnite Chapter 2 season 4 start?
Fortnite’s new season is set to begin on Aug. 27. While there isn’t a specific time that Fortnite seasons start, in the past it’s been somewhere around 3-5 a.m. ET.
What’s the theme for this Fortnite season?
While Epic hasn’t exactly told players what’s going on, the comics that have been released seem like pretty clear hints that a Marvel Comics crossover event will provide the main theme for the season. The in-game preview comics have shown Thor arriving on the Fortnite island and getting into a massive brawl with some of the game’s most recognizable characters.
What does this mean for the new season?
As of Tuesday, Aug. 25 — two days before the season starts — we have a few good hints. Without giving anything away from the actual Thor comic series (we’ll have spoilers on that later if you want to read them), Thor has come to the Fortnite island to warn the residents that Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds is on his way, but something about the island makes Thor lose his memory. He briefly fights some of Fortnite’s most iconic characters, then Galactus arrives, jogging Thor’s memory of his true purpose. Just as Galactus arrives, Thor sends a message to Lady Sif back on Asgard asking for her help, so she’s likely on the way to Fortnite as well.
With Lady Sif, Thor, and Galactus all possibly hanging out in Fortnite this season, there could be some massive and sudden map changes while these gods battle it out across the island. On top of that, we can probably expect some new PvE elements and new locations right when the season begins — at least based on other seasons.

[Ed. Note: The rest of this post contains spoilers for the most recent series of Thor comics which started in January 2020.]
How does any of this fit in with the Thor comics?
In the latest run of Thor comics kicked off with a new #1 in January of this year and is written by Donny Cates, drawn by Nic Klein, and colored by Matt Wilson. In it, the god of thunder becomes King of Asgard, then becomes Galactus’ Herald in order to prevent the end of the universe.
Apparently, according to Galactus, an evil force called the Black Winter is coming to destroy the universe, and the only way it can be saved is if Galactus consumes several specific planets. Thor accompanies him in order to evacuate each planet before Galactus eats it. It’s somewhere around here, a planet or two into Galactus’ multi-planet buffet, where the Fortnite season and comic appear to be set — which seems to be about issue #4 of the comic run.
Will other Marvel character show up during this season?
While the comics didn’t involve too much of the rest of the Marvel universe until issue #5, things started to get interesting after that. In issue #6, Thor receives a vision from Black Winter, which can show mortals’ their own death, in which several iconic Marvel character had become zombies — which would definitely make for an exciting Fortnite Halloween event if season 4 lasts that long.
Issue #7 of the series isn’t out yet, but the cover and description both suggest that more Marvel heroes could be on their way into the story. The cover features the Mjolnir, along with the hands of several characters, like Iron Man, competing to grab it. Issue #7 isn’t set to release until Sept. 16 which would mean that other heroes will show up later ... or maybe not.
While we still can’t say for sure which heroes from the Marvel universe will make their way to Fortnite, we should know more once the season launches on Aug. 27, and there are sure to be a few surprises during the season as well.
