Contest: "A Haiku for Strider" (PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 or Xbox One)

Howdy Polynauts. We've a pretty cool contest happening this week here on Polygon, and all you're going to have to do is flex those vocabularies into some haiku-ish poetry - but it needs to meet the brief below. Let's talk details.

We've got 25 downloadable copies of Capcoms' Strider up for grabs, and it doesn't matter if you have a PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 or an Xbox One. There are five codes for each platform to be won.

You need to make a haiku based on Strider and post it below. As long as you can put some aspect of the game into awesome prose you're good to go. If you're not familiar with the gameplay you can see Polygons' video review below for inspiration.

When you post your haiku please be sure to note which format you want - you can only choose one!

Well. Haiku's are traditionally composed on a single line in Japanese, and as we're an English language website we're going to go with what is considered the traditional three lines of prose, containing 5/7/5 syllables respectively.

Here's an example by Tony Barrett of Gaming Age shared with me via Twitter:

get to writing, nerds

I think Tony did a fine job of demonstrating exactly what a haiku is, don't you? So get creative with your entries, but please keep them within the community guidelines please, yeah? Break those and you'll get disqualified, buddy!

When you post your haiku below the Polygon community will judge for themselves by clicking the recommend button. If you tweet the following out you’ll earn an additional recommend from Polybot (me). You’ll need to verify your tweet by emailing us a link to it at shaun(at), with your username and a nod to your comment/entry. The top five entries for each platform win a copy, that's pretty fair, right? I'll also list the usernames of those who voted for each winning entry on this post after the contest closes.

"I've entered @Polygon’s contest to win a copy of the @StriderOfficial game."

The contest will end on March 20 at 12pm Pacific. Winners will be contacted via email so make sure you have on listed in your profile here.

There’s no excuse to try and cheat - I can spot cheaters a mile off. If you make a second account to try and bump your recommends then we’ll disqualify you. If you make two accounts to try and make multiple entries - we’ll disqualify you. Be cool with your entry, but be fair to everyone else. There are 25 copies to be won, you’re in with a good chance.

Agreement to Official Rules: By entering the Contest, you indicate your full and unconditional agreement to, and acceptance of, (a) these Official Rules and (b) Sponsor’s decisions, which are final and binding. Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein. A winner is responsible for paying any applicable income taxes and any and all other costs and expenses not listed above.

Employees, independent contractors, interns, officers, directors, and agents of Sponsor, other companies associated with the Contest, the judges, as well as the immediate family members (spouse, parents, siblings, and children, and their respective spouses) and household members of any of the foregoing are not eligible to enter. In some contests Polygon moderators will be eligible for entry, as they are volunteers and receive no renumeration for their services - but only if the judgement is based upon a community vote. Should the decision rest with the community manager then moderators will be ineligible for entry.

As is always the case here giveaways of products are not, and should never be considered, endorsements of the companies involved or their products as per the Polygon Ethics Statement.

Again, you're allowed one entry, any attempts to cheat and/or make a second account will be spotted a mile off. But you wouldn't cheat, would you?

Please recommend any great haikus in the comments. The more you recommend the more you'll encourage others to do the same. You can watch Polygons' video review of Strider below, and read about it here. Be sure to use it for inspiration if you're not familiar with the series.
